BBC RADIO SESSIONS - VOLUME 2
Announcing Brassy
ORDER: arkive.ffm.to/brassybbc
Formed in Manchester in the mid 1990s, Brassy brought together Muffin Spencer, Stefan Gordon, Karen Frost and Jonny Barrington to create a sound that mixed funk, punk and hip hop into something wholly their own. Their records were released on Wiiija, the Beggars Banquet imprint known for supporting bold, innovative acts. In June 2001, Brassy recorded a BBC session that captured the band’s vibrant collision of hip hop rhythms and alternative rock energy. The set included “Parkside,” “Bcos We Rock,” “I Gotta Beef / Who Stole the Show,” “All New” and “Extra Juice,” each performance bristling with sharp beats, taut guitars and Muffin Spencer’s commanding vocals.
Brassy BBC Session Tracklist:
1 / 1 - parkside
1 / 2 - bcos we rock
2 / 1 - i gotta beef/who stole the show
2 / 2 - all new
2 / 3 - extra juice
This session is also available digitally!
The whole collection of BBC sessions is available to order now as a completed box, extremely limited in number, only 250 complete boxsets are being sold.

Today’s a big one, it’s the 40th anniversary of This Nation’s Saving Grace by The Fall! So we thought we’d share a gem from the archives, the NME "Godlike Genius Award," handed to the late, great Mark E. Smith in 1998 for his one-of-a-kind contribution to music.

Originally released in 1985, their 8th album is one of The Fall’s most loved releases and is often hailed as one of the greatest albums of the 1980s. Drawing from the well of primal rock ‘n’ roll, the band play with muscular spontaneity and inspiration to create music that still sounds unique and challenging, especially against today’s anodyne imitations of Rock and ‘guitar music’.

Pitchfork cited This Nation's Saving Grace as "one of the strongest-ever Fall releases" and "perhaps the best record to emerge from the Beggars Banquet Fall era".The Guardian wrote that the album showcased the Fall "thrillingly subverting the notion of what pop music is", while Uncut wrote that it contained the band's strongest configuration, "in all their menacing, utilitarian finery."

Happy 40th, This Nations Saving Grace.

FORTY FIVE SINGLES
Released in 1982 on Beggars Banquet, Blade-Runner from Morrissey-Mullen was a spirited jazz-funk reinterpretation of Vangelis’s Blade Runner theme, stretched into an extended jam. The slick, funk-laced single from London’s premier jazz-fusion duo was driven by Dick Morrissey’s bold sax and Jim Mullen’s sharp guitar interplay, they were known as “Mr Sax and Captain Axe”… Issued as both a 7″ and 12″ single, complete with picture sleeve art styled after the film, it also featured "I Pull the Strings" on the B-side.
