One week of âMagic, Alive!â
Wow crazy to say, one week ago last week, we made your favorite albumâŚ. Again.
As a thank you for this insanely fast milestone (actually hit it two days ago but đ
đż) here are some behind the scenes from the making of the album! I have a thing for recording in the summer and releasing between spring and summer. Something about the sun, and the smiles, and the way it hits everyone while we sing.
Anyway, thank you for the love on the album. I will make you proud.

âCouldâve Been Differentâ feat @bluherfavcolor and @shamir326 the second single from my new album âMagic, Alive!â is out now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtKfS...
Where to begin. Bluâs 2009 album âBelow The Heavensâ inspired me, and Iâm sure you and you and you, to rap. So to have him do this and say this was⌠a full circle moment. And Shamir for a long time has been a staple in how I view moving in a world against. Iâll probably make a separate post but thank you both. This means more than you know!
Accompanied by a visualizer by Adam Baron-Bloch and V Haddad.

McKinley Dixonâs new album, Magic, Alive!, is out now on City Slang.
For almost a decade, Dixon has been turning his experiences as a native Southerner and student of literature into vivid reflections on joy, pain, and perseverance. His breakthrough, , began with 2021âs For My Mama and Anyone Who Look Like Her and continued with 2023âs Beloved! Paradise! Jazz!?, both instrumentally rich exercises in storytelling wrapped up in the trauma and grief of losing a young friend.
In many ways, Magic, Alive! continues the work of its predecessors: It is the story of three kids who lose their best friend and wrestle with the subsequent turmoil. The essential twist, though, is that the trio wonder what they can do to bring their pal back or, at the very least, reconvene with him, so that their friendship does not end with mortality. Indeed, the crux of Magic, Alive! is a broad contemplation of what constitutes magic at all.
