The Kabardino-Balkarian Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences was founded on June 29, 1993 by Decree No. 143 of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences for organizing and conducting in conjunction with the relevant departments of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Informatics, Computer Science and Automation, General Biology, Physiology, Oceanology, Atmospheric Physics and Geography, History, Literature and language, Economics) fundamental and applied scientific research on state, regional and republican programs. Being the governing body and organization of research activities, the KBSC RAS was called upon to promote its coordination, integration of scientific institutions with higher educational institutions, industry research institutes.
