A tribute to the publication of Stuart Adamson - In A Big Country
The story of how a boy born in Manchester England, raised in a small Fife village in Scotland who formed The Skids, released his first single at 19 and then wrote three Top 40 albums. In the next three years he was written off as a has-been at 23, but then went on to form a new band and sell more than 10 million records worldwide.
Big Country went on to record 8 studio albums and release over 20 singles, much of which became a Cult following. Touring with Alice Cooper, The Jam, Queen at their last ever gig with Freddie Mercury in 1986, David Bowie on The Glass Spider Tour in 1987, The Rolling Stones in 1995 and appearing with Ray Davies at Glastonbury in the late 90's.
Although Stuart Adamson was one of the most respected and popular figures in the music industry, his personal life was complex depression, alcoholism, estrangement and ultimately tragic ending with his suicide in a Hawaiian hotel in December 2001.
