SCARBOROUGH TONIGHT - STILL WORKING ON OUR DREAM!

In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: "It goes on!" Robert Frost.

Well, I too could use those same words about Simple Minds.
"It goes on!"
And it has gone on continuously for more than 45 years with no sign of coming to an end.

Not the kids we once were, there is plenty about us that has changed while evolving from those early days.
Yet Charlie is mostly still smiling while performing his duties. (See pic.)
And I'm probably still as intense as the young singer featured.
True essence never changes.

Back then we dreamt about nothing more than becoming one of the world's great live bands.
Guess what?
Stuck in between a childhood sense of wonder and our now disciplined adult intelligence - we are still working on that dream!
In any case, it feels good to be back touring in the UK.
Hope to see you out there, somewhere!

IT'S A FAMILY AFFAIR!

Simple Minds are looking forward to being back in the UK this week, meanwhile thanks to Sue Iredale who posts:

"An amazing group of musicians who are like a family put together to have a fun time and in turn, embrace their audience for the night to make them feel included into their family! I just love how you interact with your crowd and make us feel just as much appreciated as we appreciate your performance - not something a lot of artists can do. Game changer & since the first gig I saw you guys I was hooked!"

BEST JOB IN THE WORLD
Unlucky me!
Leaving behind home and so much that I love, in the next few days I'll pack my bags and head off for another two months of work.
But how fortunate really?
Returned to a state of health, loving my work, and now ready to begin the next phase of touring with Simple Minds, sometimes even feeling that I have the best job in the world.

"Best job" you ask?

Well, not because I still love travelling, that's for sure!
Whatever glamour seemingly once attached to travelling is now long gone. I guess I've already spent too many dull hours in my lifetime getting from A to B.

Got to be the adulation then?
Who wouldn't get an ego boost from the kind of positive reactions that Simple Minds receive wherever we go? Right?
But no!
Even if it feels wonderful to be appreciated for the work.
Still not quite the main reason.

"Has to be the money then?"
Come on! Doesn't everybody go to work for money, and doesn't everyone like 'payday' whenever it comes around?
I do. And I have felt that way since I began working after school at the age of 14 - spending all my wages on concert tickets and adding to my record collection.
Anyway, it might come close but still it is not the main reason.

So seriously, what is it really that often makes me feel I have the best job in the world?

Maybe it's the fact that at the end of every night, looking out at the audience and realising that along with whatever other emotions induced, evidently we have made so many happy.
Possibly helped them forget both the problems of the world and their own personal difficulties by spreading some joy for an evening through our music?
In that moment it is the sense of accomplishment that leads me to believe that all of us involved have the best job in the world!

DREAM VENUES
For the longest time Simple Minds have hoped to perform in The Pula Arena, the world famous Roman amphitheatre located in Pula, Croatia.
Very much on the 'bucket list' - meaning a number of experiences that a person hopes to accomplish during their lifetime - a dream realised is set to occur during the upcoming summer tour? (July 3)
Is there a particular 'dream venue' in which you would you like to see Simple Minds perform?
