Bridges Project seeks to address race relations in Marion County, Florida.
Bridges Project started at a Friday Forum which held a luncheon panel in January, 2015 on the topic of race relations.
A group remained afterward wanting to take action on the issue. But what action? We realized that we needed to be able to converse about race ourselves before committing to any action.
The group committed to a six session study of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Letter from the Birmingham Jail."
Following the study, working groups were formed around engaging law enforcement, community outreach and education, transformative relationships, and legacy issues of race in Marion County.
In July, Bridges Project began its sustained campaign for removal of the Confederate flag from flying on county property when the County Commission raised the flag on the same day that South Carolina voted to take theirs down.
