I won't be filming a reaction to the booker shortlist - but here are my thoughts and a link to my review of the longlist.
Considering the longlist, it's about as good a shortlist as possible. My 3 favourite books made it, which is a bit of a surprise and a nice one. Surprised Hisham Matar misses out, although he didn't make my shortlist so I can see the reasoning. I only thought one of Held and Orbital would make it, but this is clearly a preference of the judges. Only one author of colour making it is disappointing, with only 6 spots these sort of statistical anomalies happen, but they do only seem to happen in one direction. 5 women is however a statistical anomaly in the opposition direction to previous years. Nice to see an Aussie, and dare I say it, her book has been received slightly better internationally than locally.
James must be the favourite to win, although Orbital does seem to be in the judges preferred style, so has to be a strong contender. The Safekeep is my personal favourite and I think is a strong dark horse, as too is Stone Yard Devotional. I don't see Held beating Orbital and I really enjoyed Creation Lake and recommend it, but I don't see it winning.

Thank you so much to everybody who has subscribed, watched a video or supported this channel. 4k while my computer waits for parts and I can't make videos, I just didn't expect to keep getting subs, so thank you.

If you struggle to keep up with all the readathons on Booktube, Paige does monthly summaries. In September you can check out 28 readathons running in September and decide which ones you want to participate in, there's even links to all the announcement videos.
Obviously a lot of work is involved in creating these videos and they're really useful to viewers, readers, creators and the Booktube community in general.

Just a little update because it's been a while since I posted a video. I'm still without a computer, so no videos. I hope to have it back tomorrow all things going well, if so I post a stand alone book review of the best book I have read in the last 3 months, (hint it's a sequel that was released this year). Then hopefully by Monday a review the entire Booker Prize Longlist (I hope to finish the last book today).
What is the best book you've read in the last 3 months?

Just wanted to share this brilliant video by Katie for anybody who missed it. She goes into so much depth and detail, it is such a thoughtful video, I truely loved it.

Still no computer, so no videos this weekend - but enjoy one of my favourite quotes from this year's Booker longlist.

No video for a while as my computer is busted and is at the computer hospital, so I can't film or edit. In the mean time, here's a bunch of books I recommended for Straya September last year.
Not included are the very excellent books The Performance by Claire Thomas, which would be fantastic for the fire/heat prompt and Dark Emu by Bruce Pascoe which is a good one for the deadly prompt and just a must read for any Aussie who hasn't read it yet.

Been out of action this week with some general cold and flu stuff, so no video soon. So as it's Booker time of year, enjoy this classic video from 12 months ago.

Hello Welcome to Gunpowder, Fiction and Plot, a channel about books.
Hi I'm Scott, I make videos about books, sometimes they're silly; but I always aim to either create conversation or let you know if you would like or dislike a book regardless of my opinions.
What sort of Books do I read? I like miserable sad books, I like books that make me laugh or that talk about anything interesting and new. I like to read from a variety of different cultures. I love books by Women, African & Indian novels, LGBT authors, emotionally nuanced or complex books, political satire, classics, new releases and anybody writing from a POV that isn't my own. I also read a fair bit of basic popular stuff, because I don't want to be left out.
