Welcome to the saw-whet owlcam in Madison, Wisconsin.
2024 (Spring)—A pair of northern saw-whet owls found the house in late January 2024. Three eggs hatched on March 17, the last two hatched on March 22 and 23, respectively. Sadie left on April 9, turning care over to Simon. Days before the owlets were ready to fledge, Simon disappeared. The owlets will be cared for by wildlife experts until they can be released.
2022—We believe this may be the same owl that first nested here in 2020. That female was last seen in January 2022. A new female arrived on March 14, 2023 and was last seen on March 16. The box was eventually taken over by house sparrows.
2021–Things looked promising until a squirrel figured out how to get in the house.
2020–Our first family of eastern screech owls. There were five owlets total. One died days after fledging. We never saw the others after they fledged.
