Today's grace note 🧠 July 10th, 2023:

When wanting to feel happier,

Especially when the brain and the body seem to be stuck in that groove of worry and doubt,

Forget high jumping straight from anxiety to a place a bliss,

Just take that next step in the right direction.

What is the next best thought you could think?

Just 1% more positive...

"Well I suppose I'm not failing at everything I do"

Then 1% more...

"I did do a good job sending those three emails out this morning"

Then 1% more...in

"I am definitely getting better at delegating"

Then 1% more...

"I am proud of myself for that"

What are the baby step thoughts you can think right now to head in the direction of how you truly want to feel?

Here's a quick way to get in the self-love mindset - which is a key part of self improvement...

When we can fall in love with the present moment, we can fall in love with ourselves that much more easily and experience that much more joy. For example,

If we can accept that it's raining, we can be really happy with the rain.

If we can accept that this is the way our body is right now, we can still strive to get stronger and healthier down the line which is a form of self-love...

But then we don't have to hate ourselves by not being at the goal we're attempting to realize at some point in the future.

This is the key to self love.

Here's how society trains us against self love - it's often why we struggle with self love.

Most people go through life, day in and day out, really not liking themselves, not because they're bad people or they've done anything wrong—but because we are trained by society, advertising and so much else to hate ourselves, and to believe that the solution to happiness is external and outside of who we are...

That if we "take this pill" or if we "buy this book" — we are told all day long that the solutions to our happiness and the things that will improve upon the flawed version of who we are are out there in the world...

And it's not the case. It's an inside job.

We fall in love with ourselves because we get in touch with the truth, which is that we are already magnificent and we don't need anything else to make us that way.

Are you overwhelmed on Mondays?

Here's a process that can help:

Take a deep, letting go breath...

Imagine a beautiful whiteboard before you.

Ask yourself "What is the one most important thing I have to do right now?"

Receive that answer and write it on the whiteboard.

Now, take a step back and just look at it, and digest it.

Allow every single part of your being to realize that yes, you only have one thing to do and you know exactly what it is.

Imagine doing that one thing from beginning to end, fully completing it in a really positive, perhaps even fun way.

Now, go get it!

When you're having one of those days,

looking for something to be grateful for can help bring you out of a negative thought loop.

But just "thinking happy" sometimes isn't enough.

It’s not just the thought of gratitude that snaps you into a new state of being...

It’s the feeling of gratitude. That full body feeling of gratitude.

Notice how your body feels when you're experiencing gratitude.

Feel gratitude in your whole being and let it wash over you.

Take a second, focus, and feel that gratitude from within and all around…
