सनातन धर्म में होली के पावन पर्व का विशेष महत्व है। इस दिन मथुरा वृंदावन और वाराणसी समेत पूरा देश होली के रंग में रंगीन हो जाता है। धार्मिक ग्रंथों में भी होली के पावन पर्व का उल्लेख किया  गया है। कहा जाता है कि इस दिन श्रीहरि भगवान विष्णु ने पूतना का वध कर धरती लोक को राक्षसों के प्रकोप से बचाया था। मान्यता है कि इस विधि विधान से श्रीहरि भगवान विष्णु और माता लक्ष्मी की पूजा अर्चना करने से सभी कष्टों का निवारण होता है
