Parks Roll and Hike is a new roll and write game set in the "Parks" world from Keymaster Games. It's designed by Henry Audubon and its a great, compact game that's easy to pick up and learn. The design if the game - like the actual physical design - makes it easy to play on the go, whether that's on a hiking trail or beside the pool, because instead of flimsy tear off sheets, you have logbooks that you can hold in your hand while you play. You play the game over 3 "Days" on the trail, choosing dice to resolve differnet areas of your logbook including sunset bonuses, journaling, filling your canteen, and wildlife sightings.

The gameplay, while similar in tone to Parks, is completely different. If you're a fan of roll and writes, I think this is a great addition to your collection, especially if you're looking for an easy game to take on the go.

And we have a tutorial - I teach the main game and the solo rules, and it's just under 9 minutes long.
They'll have limited quantities at Gencon, and it should be widely available in September

Critter Kitchen hit kickstarter today. This is the next game from Cardboard Alchemy, creators of Flamecraft. While it does share some similarities - same artist, worker placement, resource management, and an overall relatively approachable game, it has much more potential for player interaction, and specifically for the decisions of one player to impact another player. Rather than choosing the resources you want to take from an unlimited pool, you are competing with other players to take from a limited set of ingredients (resources) available each round, and because players secretly choose where to send their workers and simultaneously place them, you aren't able to play around what other players are doing, creating a level of tension and a deeper level of decision making, since the resources you want could potentially be gone if too many players go there.
