ANNOUNCEMENT: The PCS (popculturestu YouTube channel) WMC Restoration Project!

Hey folks. As you probably guessed from this channel, the old Memphis wrestling territory is my favorite of all promotions. Yet, most of the absolute best Memphis stuff is just not out there. The promotion didn't save much in the way of tapes they bicycled and actually turned the machines off for the WMC exclusive content. We only have as much as we do because a few fans like Jim Cornette and literally one guy in Evansville recorded the shows weekly for years.

It's well known that much of the best bits of the Memphis show were shot just for WMC. Major angles, matches, interviews and even title changes were shot and aired - just once - on the 90 minute show. For the last decade or so, I've been collecting as much footage as I can find with the hopes of rebuilding as many WMC shows as possible. I'm finally at a point where I think I can share some of the work. First up, I'll be adding 1990. Why 1990? Let me explain.

At the end of 1989, Jarrett Promotions had purchased World Class and began to rebrand as the USWA. The Evansville TV show changed and now featured mostly footage from the Dallas end of the promotion. However, the Memphis version of the show remained largely unchanged save for adding a few matches from the Sportatorium. Everything still revolved around Monday night at the Mid South Coliseum. Footage from those WMC shows is extremely scarce and mostly incomplete. The videos I'll be posting will be, in many cases, an attempt to edit multiple sources together (sometimes as many as five) to get the show back to as close to its original format as possible.

Couple of notes. I'm not a professional editor nor do I know much about restoring video/sound to HD. You'll notice the quality on these may vary from segment to segment. Did the best I could. Some shows look great, others are "watchable" in the old-school tape trader sense of the word. Second, my only goal here is to make sure this stuff is saved for posterity. I'm not monetizing these or the channel. Guys like Lawler, Dundee, Gilbert, Dutch, Jarrett and more all deserve to be seen and acknowledged for how great their work was. Finally, the plan moving forward. I've got all but about 7 weeks of complete or near complete shows in 1990. For the weeks I'm missing I'll post what remains from the studio show. In future, I'll be looking at posting my reconstructions for other years including 95, 89, 88 and who knows what else. The hunt for footage continues.

Thanks and I hope you enjoy this as much as I've enjoyed working on it.
