DEADLINE is doing a series of reports about the challenges facing the media & entertainment industry. I had an opportunity to speak with Lynette Rice about my observations coaching clients who have experienced career setbacks including job loss and how they may actually be grieving. It's important for folx to know they have permission to mourn not only their jobs, but how their industry has changed. Read the entire article:

Hereā€™s me in the chorus of Hello Dolly, circa 1982. My daughter Auroraā€™s passion for skiing thrills me and also made me slightly nauseous. I was delighted that she found something she loved and wanted to commit to. It reminded me of my passion for story and how, as a teenager, I would read anything I could get my hands on, watch A LOT of television and audition for every play and musical.

I also hate the cold. While I exercise, Iā€™m not an athlete and know nothing about winter sports. The idea of being someplace cold for months at a time makes my whole body tighten and cringe.

But what are you gonna do when someone you love loves something you donā€™t love? You figure it out.

Whenever I make a mistake, my new best practice is to remind myself that Iā€™m no longer a child valiantly striving to take care of my mother. Iā€™m an adult who has the resources to respond when mistakes happen ā€” and accept the hard truth that sometimes mistakes will cost me money, opportunity, relationships, trust, or my reputation. But those costs are not permanent and can be course corrected.
How do I remember this new best practice? I keep a photo of myself as a kid on my desk. How do you handle mistakes?

The Yellow Pages Newsletter has been one of my favorite recommendations since I learned how to make recommendations on Substack! What I love about ā€Ŗ@mslynnchenā€¬'s newsletter is that a) Iā€™m always learning something new b) about cool AAPI people or things in art and culture that I didnā€™t know existed c) from informed folx who are true fans and share the love. Iā€™m also a big fan of Lynnā€™s ā€” she's an actress/writer/director and someone whoā€™s been guiding me in hitting my moonshot. The Yellow Pages is super fun and comes from the heart. yellowpages.substack.com/p/career-coach-laverne-mcā€¦

CanvasRebel supports mission driven brands and creators by featuring their stories on their website. I was delighted to be asked to share about my coaching business and a bit about why I do what I do. If youā€™ve been following me at all, you already know that I love to support ambitious driven people who have hit a speed bump in their career regain momentum and hit their moonshot. Why? Because Iā€™ve had my share of faceplates, mistakes and setbacks. And I donā€™t want anyone to have to go it alone. Check out the interview @canvasrebel: canvasrebel.com/meet-laverne-mckinnon/

Rituals are a powerful tool to grieve and can be used for all types of loss. I got to chat with Amy Behimer about (dis-enfranchised) grief after setbacks related to autoimmune disease. Itā€™s an amazing conversation (Amy got the chills!) and we talked through different examples of the rituals. Please listen and take a moment to rate and review to support Amyā€™s impactful work: thehabithubpodcast.amybehimercoaching.com/playlistā€¦

Even coaches have coaches, and I got to be coached by the amazing @DallasTraversBizMentor. Why listen to me talk about launching a webinar? Because it gives insight in to how to problem solve when feeling stuck. Dallas has a great way of asking questions, holding space, pitching ideas with detachment and bringing out the best in her clients. Sheā€™s a role model for anyone who wants to be a stronger leader, mentor or coach. Check it: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/189-use-a-webinar-asā€¦
