The Nigerian government has condemned Canada for denying visas to its senior military officers, including the head of the military.
Chief of Defence Staff Gen Christopher Musa said half of his delegation, who were supposed to be in Canada for an official assignment on Wednesday, were left in Nigeria after not getting the correct paperwork.
Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo condemned the action by Canadian officials, terming it "disrespectful" to the West African country.
The Canadian High Commission in Nigeria said it was aware of the matter but declined to give further details for "privacy reasons" on the specific individuals involved.

About 44 Nigerians and Ghanaians were deported to their home countries in a single flight on Friday, according to the UK Home Office.

The Home Office said that the Nigeria and Ghana deportations were part of a “major surge” in immigration enforcement and returns, according to the Guardian UK.

Since Labour came to power in July 3,600 people have been returned to various countries, including about 200 to Brazil and 46 on a flight to Vietnam and Timor Leste.

There are also regular deportation flights to Albania, Lithuania and Romania.

If you haven’t already, you might do soon, because they’re examples of Nigerian cooking that are rapidly moving into the mainstream of UK dining.
Nigerian restaurants are appearing on the high street and the vibrant West African cuisine is hitting the supermarket shelves, with Sainsbury's offering ready-made meals of popular Nigerian dishes such as Gizdodo, Eforiro and Ayamase.
“The big trend we have observed over the past eight years or so is the rise of west African and specifically Nigerian fine dining restaurants,” says Lumina Intelligence, market researchers specialising in the restaurant sector.
The Nigerian foodservice market is estimated to be worth $10bn in 2024 and is expected to reach $17bn in 2029.
A 2018 BBC report from food experts predicted West African food will be "the next big food trend” and a few years later it is excelling.

Four people have been jailed after forging more than 2,000 marriage certificates to help people live in the UK illegally.

Abraham Alade Olarotimi Onifade, 41, Abayomi Aderinsoye Shodipo, 38, Nosimot Mojisola Gbadamosi, 31, and Adekunle Kabir, 54, were all sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court in London on Tuesday.

The Home Office said the four were part of an organised criminal group that made fraudulent EU Settlement Scheme applications for Nigerian nationals.

They carried out the enterprise between March 2019 and May last year, and were also found to have provided false Nigerian Customary Marriage Certificates and other fraudulent documentation to help applicants remain in the country.

An investigation from the Home Office in the UK and Lagos found more than 2,000 false marriage documents were facilitated by the group, who themselves were Nigerian.

Story no dey finish for this refinery head. One day you will hear it was not designed to be built in Nigeria.

The President and Chief Executive of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has stated that his $20bn Dangote Petroleum Refinery was built to use Nigerian crude and add value to it within the country.

Dangote, who stated this in a statement issued by the refinery on Thursday, asked why should the plant deviate from this focus, as he admitted that the refinery had also been refining crude oil grades from Europe, the United States, and other countries.

Africa’s wealthiest man further noted that the domestic crude oil supply issues in Nigeria were being resolved by the parties involved.

The statement said the refinery has already affected crude flows, with dozens of Nigerian cargoes remaining in-country and US WTI Midland, a comparable light, sweet grade, being imported. It said the mega-refinery could therefore tighten the light, sweet crude market.

A Liberal Democrat MP was told he had two months to find a new home the day after he was elected to Parliament.
On 5 July, the newly-elected member for Didcot and Wantage, Olly Glover, received an eviction notice from his landlords, who plan to retire and sell their property.
Mr Glover, who has been renting his current home in Milton for four years, said "no fault evictions" create a "huge pressure" for renters.
He said he believed there was a cultural problem in the UK where housing is seen primarily as an asset and secondarily as an affordable necessity.
Mr Glover said he supported government plans to strengthen tenant rights.
"It was completely unexpected," he said, reflecting on the morning that he received the letter.
The MP said he had no issue with his landlords, but would like to see a process whereby homeowners have a discussion with renters, to work out a timescale, before they issue a no-fault eviction notice.

Vatican banishes archbishop who branded Pope Francis 'servant of Satan'

An ultra-conservative archbishop has been excommunicated by the Vatican after being found guilty of schism.

Schism is one of the gravest crimes in canon law and occurs when someone withdraws submission to the Pope or his Catholic subjects.

Carlo Maria Vigano served as the Vatican's ambassador to the US from 2011 to 2016 but went into hiding in 2018.

This came after he alleged Pope Francis knew about US cardinal Theodore McCarrick's sexual misconduct and did nothing about it.

The Vatican has rejected this claim.

Vigano also branded the Pope a "false prophet" and a "servant of Satan", before calling for him to resign.

The Vatican's doctrinal office announced the 83-year-old's excommunication - or banishment - on Friday.

It said his previous comments made it clear he refused "to recognise and submit" to the head of the Roman Catholic Church.

22 years old elected as Member of British parliament.
A 22-year-old elected as an MP with a razor-thin majority has said he does not want his age to be the focus as he heads to Westminster.
Labour’s Sam Carling is likely to be the "baby of the House" - the unofficial title given to the youngest member of the House of Commons - after narrowly winning North West Cambridgeshire.
The Cambridge University science graduate student beat veteran Conservative MP Shailesh Vara by 39 votes to take the seat.
Mr Carling called his victory a "political earthquake", and said he hoped more young people would stand for public office.
"Then they will see themselves represented, both in Parliament and local councils. It will help tackle apathy," he said.
