Kentaro Miura didn’t hold back when it came to portraying anger in Berserk. His original intent was to showcase rage in its rawest, most visceral forms—and he achieved it masterfully.
Some of the most brutal panels in manga history depict Guts slowly losing control, with even the form of his iris disappearing in his fury. It’s a small but neat detail that shows Miura’s dedication to storytelling through art.

Hayao Miyazaki is known for his unique approach to filmmaking, developing narratives as he creates storyboards without a fixed screenplay. His films, like Princess Mononoke, blend traditional hand-drawn animation with subtle computer enhancements, always maintaining the essence of 2D art. Influenced by both Japanese and Western artists, from Osamu Tezuka to Jean Giraud, Miyazaki’s work reflects a diverse range of inspirations. His vivid watercolor concept art, beautifully crafted manga, and the charmingly strange creature designs he and the Ghibli staff create are iconic.

Personally, I love many Ghibli movies (Mononoke, Arrietty, Spirited Away, Marnie, Kaguya, etc.), though a few aren’t quite my cup of tea (Boy and the Heron, Pom Poko, Howl's Moving Castle).

What’s your favorite?

Naoki Ikushima is a standout artist in the game world, known for his captivating medieval fantasy style in titles like Octopath Traveler, Triangle Strategy and soon the Dragon Quest remakes. His art feels like an invitation to adventure, with characters poised for epic journeys. Ikushima’s unique approach focuses on smooth silhouettes, dynamic character interactions and richly detailed settings that blend seamlessly into their worlds. While his use of soft, earthy tones in the HD-2D style can sometimes feel repetitive, it’s also what gives his work a cohesive, timeless feel. His passion for storytelling through art truly makes his pieces come alive.

Throughout his career, Shinkiro has consistently experimented with and evolved his style, refining his approach to color, shading, and character design while maintaining the core elements that make his work unmistakably his own.
