STORMSKATER


Ishariah Johnson is a professional roller-skater with over 14 years of experience.  

She teaches and has performed at various private events and clubs, having also appeared in music videos, media projects and commercials. 

 

Early Years

Ishariah was born in Camberwell and grew up in Deptford, South London.  Growing up, Ishariah’s parents made sure she understood fitness within the community.  Her father, who is a Thai Kickboxing expert, taught her, her family and the wider community at his martial arts club in Deptford.

 

At the age of 8 years old, Ishariah was given some roller skates for her birthday and started roller skating.  Her Dad and Uncle both skated in Hyde Park and Harrow in the 80s and 90s.  Her first roller skating lesson was taught by her uncle outside the block of flats where she grew up.  Over the next few summers, Ishariah would skate to and from youth clubs.   In her early teens, a friend invited her to a skating event – and that was the start of her roller-skating addiction.  From thereon, she was passionate, dedicated and practiced every day.   Storm skater was born. 

 

In her first year of professional roller skating, she was in music videos for Big Man Zest, Gracious K and Tim Westwood, where she invited her friends from the skating scene, she was a part of.

 

Eager and hungry to immerse herself into the skate scene, a few years later, Storm skater was being hired to roller skate at private night clubs such as Maggie’s and Disco.  She was cast for her first ad with H&M x Balmain, starring Kendal Jenner.  In the same year, she travelled to Atlanta for a skate-a-thon skate party.

Ishariah has featured in ad campaigns for Apple, McDonalds, Boots, EDF Energy, one plus, Dacia and Greggs and appeared at Brixton Electric. 

 

Since 2018, Ishariah has been teaching people how to roller skate and during the COVID pandemic she created “Storm skater Academy”, set up to specifically teach people how to skate and spin via online lessons/tutorials.  In 2020, she created a short self-titled film “Storm skater” where she talks about her ambition and love for roller skating. The film went on to win Best Sport Film Award at the 2021 Kendal Film Festival. 

 

Ishariah’s personal goal is to constantly improve her skills as well as sharing her knowledge and passion of roller skating.  She has broken down many barriers and encouraged people to roller skate from all backgrounds and cultures. 

Having previously been sponsored by various roller skate companies including Slick Willies, she recently won sponsorship from Riedell Roller in December 2021.  “I’m really proud to be part of the skating community, it’s great to see the new influx of skaters worldwide, it’s incredible to see the work recognised and I’m hoping we inspire change in the way roller skating is seen”.  In 2021 she also met Nile Rodgers (who is also a roller skater) and was invited to his private birthday party at Ministry of Sound club – the first of its kind. With 32 k follower on instagram shes on a mission to share her joy of skating thru media .
