Hidden across the lateritic plateaus of Konkan are massive, enigmatic figures etched into stone - the Geoglyphs of Konkan . Older than many ancient Indian monuments, these prehistoric rock carvings remain one of the most overlooked chapters in our subcontinent's rich artistic heritage.

What do these vast, mysterious figures represent? Who created them? And why are they so important today?

In Pleach Talk 65, Sri Rhutvij Apte, Research Associate at the Konkan Geoglyphs and Heritage Research Centre, Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, unravels the fascinating world of these ancient geoglyphs in his talk: “Exploring the Unknown: Geoglyphs of Konkan – A Fresh Perspective in Indian Rock Art.”

Through our flagship initiative PHP (Preserve Heritage for Posterity) – we continue to document forgotten monuments, sensitise communities about their significance, and spotlight the unsung custodians of heritage.

This week, our journey took us across the rugged terrains of Nalgonda, Palnadu, and Rangareddy districts. From prehistoric rock art etched into time, to the remnants of a Shiva temple watched over by a weathered Nandi, and megalithic burials that whisper stories of prehistoric life – each site adds another layer to the mosaic of our shared history.

Swipe through to witness these silent sentinels of heritage and the legacy we’re committed to preserving.

Fatehpur Sikri, the once-glorious Mughal capital is often remembered for its grand architecture, like Buland Darwaza and Jama Masjid. But beyond the popular monuments lie layers of forgotten stories and lost structures that reflect Emperor Akbar’s visionary spirit.

Among the most remarkable of these are the Ibadat Khana a house of interfaith dialogue and the Christian Chapel, both long forgotten and hidden beneath layers of history.

In Pleach Talk 64 we are honoured to host Shri K. K. Muhammed, Padma Shri Awardee and one of the most respected archaeologists of modern India, who will share the fascinating story of "The Discovery of Akbar’s Ibadat Khana and Christian Chapel at Fatehpur Sikri."

This is a rare chance to hear the story of a discovery that redefines how we look at India’s past.
