Who's really in control?

Your mind or your emotions?

When we decide, we often let our excitement, fear, or trust take the lead.

If something feels “right,” we assume it is… even without all the facts!

That’s the Affect Heuristic at work!

Why do we do this?

It’s simple, our brains constantly process vast amounts of information, so they use emotions as a quick shortcut to save mental energy.

In many situations, this works fine.

But in complex or high-stakes decisions, we might avoid helpful options because they feel “off” or jump into things that seem good but aren’t.

So, what do you prefer : feelings or logic?

👁️First impression can trick us into making bad decisions.

It’s called the Halo Effect.

When we notice one positive trait such as charm or appearance, we often assume someone is skilled, trustworthy, or kind…

Even if there’s no proof! 🤔

Why does this happen?

Our brains crave shortcuts. When we notice one strong trait, we subconsciously “fill in the blanks” with other positives, such as intelligence or reliability.

Paradigm shift:

👀 The Halo Effect shapes how we see leaders, influencers, and even friends.

👀 Companies use this to boost sales. A celebrity endorsement makes us assume the product is good because we already like the person.

7 Common Mind Games People Play On You

1. Gaslighting

When someone denies facts, lies, or manipulates reality to make you doubt your memory or sanity.

2. Negative Humor

When they disguise criticism as sarcasm or jokes to make you feel inferior.

3. Victimhood

When someone plays the victim to exploit your kindness or guilt.

4. Pretend Ignorance

They act clueless to avoid accountability or manipulate a situation.

5. Projection

They accuse you of behaviors or flaws they themselves exhibit.

6. Guilt Tripping

Using guilt to manipulate you into doing something or feeling bad.

7. Constant Criticism

When they accuse you of behaviors or flaws they themselves exhibit.

These mind games are about control and insecurity.

The best way to protect yourself from these mind games is by recognizing them.

Awareness is your greatest defense

It's not your job to fix someone else’s behavior, but you can choose how you respond.

✅Clearly communicate behaviors you won’t tolerate.
✅Believe in your perception, even if others try to manipulate them.
✅Prioritize your mental health
✅Practice self-respect
