I really really enjoyed this chat with my fellow Irishman Jim and his co-host Seb on The Earthly Delights Podcast where we talk about how I discovered philosophy in a time of need and that ever-timeless question "What exactly IS philsosophy?". It's a long one but I promise you it's a whole heap of fun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d37AM...

Hello there,
Another great podcast chat with Sean McFadden here for you. We had a great chat around different theories of power and as ever with Sean I learned a heap and have come away with a lot of new thoughts and rabbit holes to follow. Hope you enjoy it:

Update:
So I thought you'd all appreciate an update after all your support and the help with the age-restriction of The Last Man video. I really appreciate all the support with this. I've learned a few things about how this process works. It turns out it's a black box. I thought it was just me but as it turns out YouTube's policies around this are inherently opaque. They couldn't tell me what part of the video (or even if the problem was the video and not the thumbnail as I originally suspected) was causing the problem. I gave up on Twitter and went through YouTube itself (another thing that I learned) and the helper that I was dealing with was very accommodating but she was hampered by the limitations of the regulations.
I couldn't even learn whether YouTube looks poorly on a repost. From what I can tell from the broader internet though it doesn't seem to be immediately problematic and so the plan is to take down the older version and reupload and see if this second version (with the newer thumbnail) leads to the same result. At that point I'll happily give up. So if you see the video popping up in your feed again that's what's going on.

I could use a little help.
Our recent video "The Last Man" has been age-restricted on YouTube which has basically killed it dead in the water as far as momentum is concerned.
I've been in contact with "Team YouTube" on X/Twitter trying to find out why but after a few messages I hit a brick wall and they ultimately started ignoring me. If you could take a minute of your time and go on and like the tweet (and if you want to above and beyond leave a comment) it would mean a lot. I suspect it's a case of the machine being too big for the left hand to know what the right hand is doing but I'm curious to see if a little bit of a surge of energy might elicit a response.
The tweet: x.com/TeamYouTube/status/1717774540686643677?s=20
Thanks a million,
James

Excited and delighted to announce that the channel has reached 100k!! Thanks to every one of you for the support and encouragement these past couple of years. It's been an incredible journey so far and looking forward to seeing where the way forward takes us. Please
I think a Q&A to celebrate is in order so please if you any questions pop them in the comments I'm going to do a Q&A to celebrate the milestone so if you have any questions just pop them in the comments and I'll answer them in the video

If anyone's been wondering why I haven't responded to any comments recently it's because I'm off on pilgrimage across the north of Spain hiking the Camino de Santiago. I started walking eight days ago and will be hiking till mid June. It's already been a wonderful stimulator of the creative philosophical juices — those right hemispheres vibes as the Patreon supporters know all about from this weeks bonus episode.
There's more episodes to come while I'm away one on Victor Turner's distinction between Structure and Communitas (already this has become one of my cornerstone models for thinking about the world) and another political episode looking at the strained relationship between the far left and those beyond the city gates since Marx to 21st century America. If you want more there's always the weekly bonus episodes on Patreon (patreon.com/thelivingphilosophy) where we'll be looking at Iain McGilchrist's work on the left and right hemispheres of the brain and their impact on culture and the metacrisis and more on Victor Turner with some exploration of Liminality.
Thanks as ever for your support and encouragement and I'm looking forward to catching up on comments once I'm back!
James
