Happy 4 Year Anniversary!!
Although it is a bit late, I would like to acknowledge the fact that this channel has been going on for 4 years, and it honestly wouldn't have gone this far without the help of amazing people on the internet.
Cheers to archiving! :3

The first two images you see here are of the main tsunami waves hitting Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture. (The 3rd image is the sea in its normal state, in comparison)
A 7.1 earthquake hit Miyazaki Prefecture at 16:43 local time, causing waves 0.5m high.
5 Prefectures are currently under a Tsunami Advisory, while most of southern japan is under a Tsunami Watch.

You might be asking why this might be a big deal? Well, these areas are also likely to be affected by the Nankai Trough Earthquake & Tsunami. This may be a warning sign, or just a random earthquake.

The screengrabs below (taken by a stranger) is an example of what the people here witnessed earlier. A fast rising flood reaching the roofs of houses. The river near them had overflowed to the point you can't see the river wall anymore.

Typhoon Gaemi & the Monsoon's effect here in the Philippines was catastrophic, particularly in the capital.
600,000 in Manila were displaced, 1.2 million people are left without electricity, and a further 13 are confirmed dead from landslides, floods, and other causes.
The amount of rain in 24 hours (472.5mm) is higher than Typhoon Ketsana's 455mm of rain back in 2009.
There are reports of water reaching the 3rd floor of houses, approximately 20ft, and causing other houses to collapse.
Due to emergency hotlines being overwhelmed, many took to social media to ask for help.
The local La Mesa Dam had overflowed, exacerbating the flood situation along the rivers.
I, myself, only witnessed knee-deep floodwaters and lost electricity, but we are still grateful that we didn't witness the full ferocity of the storm.
The Typhoon has now headed to Taiwan and is expected to make landfall.

have you ever heard of Meteotsunamis?
A Meteotsunami is a phenomenon in which tsunami-like waves hit the coast due to storms and extreme weather off the coast. These are not to be confused with storm surges.
These are usually harmless little disturbances, but they can be amplified and cause damage.
A great example is the Great Adriatic Flood of 1978. Here is a compilation of footage from the event in Vela Luka, Croatia

Excuse the inactivity, there was absolutely no timeslot for me to do stuff cause of school requirements. I'll try to get back around June when school's over.

I recommend watching this compilation to get a sense of how bad the tsunami was back in the new year's quake. This kind of damage was seemingly not broadcasted in western media (atleast by what I see)

Today marks 13 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake, a tragic event with many lessons.
19,765 people died during and due to the event, 2,553 people are still missing, while more than 6,242 people were injured.
405,737 houses were completely or partially destroyed, 750,020 houses were damaged, and 330 fires were reported.
The earthquake reached Shindo 7 (VIII Intensity).
The resulting tsunami reached heights of up to 40 meters.

The Japanese have largely moved on, though the lessons and memories are ones they won't forget. The victims of the past are now helping victims of the 2024 Noto Earthquake now.
