Ten years apart! My little baby Rose is now a ten-year-old. Weā€™ve made a cherry pie together every day-before-Thanksgiving for ten years now. Sheā€™s such a blessing. - SV #CookingAtHome #ilovecooking #cookingwithkids

Sunday is video publishing AND filming day. Today I published my Black Forest Cake video and we are about to record a new video. Cozy Autumnal Chicken Soup! Iā€™ve got my whole crew here. My son John is my kitchen assistant, my son Thomas is my camera/tech guy, and little Rosie wrote todayā€™s recipe on the whiteboard. It will be up next Sunday! Thanks so much for being here, SV

Oldest parents at the 5th grade dance. Lol. We are really trying to stay away from the noise. Our youngest is at her first dance! How can that be? - SV

I had a good day making ragout and fresh pappardelle. I recorded shorts of each. Recipes and videos will be up next week. I also made chicken stock, as per usual.

I really like my kitchen. Itā€™s cozy, Faline my pothos plant is happy, and my little dog Nutmeg and I have many peaceful hours here. Tomorrow Iā€™ll make a birthday cake for my daughter.

I am watching the news, however and this hurricane looks absolutely terrifying. - SV

Our next video has been filmed!! Butternut squash ravioli in a butter, sage & garlic sauce with a big crackling pork roast! Itā€™s so delicious!! We had a great time filming and I think itā€™s going to be a great video. It sure is nice to have this kind of help! Thomas and John did an amazing job . Thanks so much, recipes and video will be up soon.

Activism project note (serious):

Remember, all patients deserve dignity and we do not want pelvic/breast exams under anesthesia when we do not need them. Only give us exams when we are CONSENTING, CONSCIOUS, and LUCID. Anything else is r*pe. Please stop, full stop. The medical institution can pay and arrange for consenting patients to practice on. Please respect our autonomy, dignity and intelligence. Our quality of life matters and what you are doing is harming us, and your entire institution.

Thanks for being here, Shannon Vavich

Itā€™s #pizzamovienight! We are watching #hocuspocus . I made 2 large sheet pan pizzas, which is the easiest variation of my pizza recipe. I told the kids the real story of the ā€œwitchesā€, whom were actually educated women who threatened the status quo. I do think this movie is fun, though. Itā€™s October, the leaves are crunchy, the wind is blowing and all is well. Itā€™s fabulous cooking weather! Thank you for watching / supporting my activism work. I greatly appreciate it. Once you know my whole story, youā€™ll understand why patient dignity in medical settings is such a passion project of mine. Hugs from Deutschland, SV #activism #patientdignity

Itā€™s #pizzamovienight ! We are enjoying my homemade sheet pan pizza (recipe on my website). Itā€™s the easiest variation of my olive oil pizza crust.

We are watching #jaws! Canā€™t go wrong with this movie! Plus, it was released the year I was born. 1975. Almost 50 years ago!

Thomas helped me film my cooking video today! He did really well. He really loves film and he took direction excellently. Thomas has always been the most enthusiastic member of our pizza movie night tribe. Heā€™s been watching classic movies every Friday all his life. Almost 14 years. Heā€™s always talking about film.

Of course, you know me - Iā€™m a gushing mother. I say heā€™s going to be the next Steven Spielberg. You never know! All I know is that he worked hard on my cooking video, he understood my direction on frame blocking and movement and he couldnā€™t wait to start editing it.

Lastly, little Mochi, our foundling from Okinawa, Japan is steadfast as always. Sheā€™s the nanny of the family. Sheā€™s always taking care of the kid who had the hardest day at school. Sheā€™s a stalwart little cat. Sheā€™s crossed two oceans and she is, as always, completely dedicated to her family. I donā€™t know what weā€™d do without her!

Itā€™s a good and cozy Friday night at our house in Germany. We have all kinds of things going on this weekend, as always. God bless us, every one. Thank you for being here, SV

Today I worked on my book and made 2 chicken casseroles: one for the oven - one for the freezer. I like the casserole dishes with the snap on plastic lids for the freezer. Disposable aluminum ones will work too, but I make so many dishes to freeze, I have invested in a big stack of glass casserole dishes.

I have to check my eyes when I look at the date. 2024. It doesnā€™t seem that long ago that I was writing 2016 on my freezer dishes. Or 2010. Or 2004. Time measured in labels.

Iā€™ve always stocked my freezer. It gives me peace of mind.

Back in the early 2000ā€™s I used a vacuum pack machine, but quickly learned it was unnecessary - plus the bags were really expensive. Casserole dishes and gallon-sized freezer bags do just fine as long as you plan to consume the dishes within three months.

If you want, you can store them in the fridge too. Itā€™s hot here today so I made these during the cool morning hours. One went to the freezer, one went to the fridge. All I have to do about an hour before we want to eat is put the fridge casserole it in the oven to bake. A good middle-of-the-road solution. Iā€™ll take Rosie to the pool instead of rushing to get dinner ready. šŸ‘

My chicken casserole recipe makes 2 big pans and is preservative-free. Iā€™ll do a new, updated video on it soon. Recipe link is in the comments!
