Isn’t she pretty? 😍
As I started on my journey into the Japanese Way of Tea, I yearned to have my own Chagama. However, the new ones are usually expensive. Fortunately, I found an affordable solution in Japan's surplus stores, where slightly used kettles await new life.
I selected one such Chagama and began its restoration. First, I gently cleaned it without soap, then let it soak in a vinegar solution for a few hours. Intense scrubbing sessions followed this. The final step involved seasoning the cast iron with Canola oil and carefully baking it in the oven through several cycles.
The result? A beautifully reborn Chagama, gleaming and ready for its new life for my tea practice. ✨

The principles of harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility, drawn from the Zen-influenced Tea Ceremony, can carve out a space in our lives for being present in the moment.
The Wabi aesthetic encourages us to achieve more with less, showing that austerity isn't about suffering or going without; it's about rising above feelings of loss and solitude to incorporate them into a spiritual routine.
