So, I get a phone call the other day from someone asking me to come out and help them see if they had bed bugs in their home. Now, I donât do pest control, but hey, Iâm always down to help when I can. So, I grab my guy Josh, and we roll up to the house, thinking weâre about to do a quick inspection and be on our way.
As soon as we step inside, I turn to Josh and say, âHey, Josh, what is that?â
Josh turns around, eyes get real big, and thenââOH, SNAPS!ââhe jumps so high in the air, I thought he was trying out for the NBA. Iâm over here crying laughing, and you know why? A RAT just sprinted across the room like it had places to be! đââïžđš
But that wasnât even the worst part. Every step we tookâCRUNCH. Maggots. Roaches. Something squishy that I donât even want to know about. At this point, Josh just freezes, throws his hands up, and says, âMan, ainât nobody got time for this! Iâm going back home!â
Yâall. We lost it. TEARS rolling down our faces. I had to take a deep breath and say, âListen, I donât mind getting dirty and helping people out, but this right here? This is above my pay grade. I signed up to help people, not to be on an episode of Animal Planet.â
Before we even took another step, we suited up in some hazmat-style gear like we were about to enter a war zone. Not for style, but because the mold, the smellâohhh, the smellâwas about to take us out. I was breathing through my mouth so hard, I almost passed out.
Moral of the story? If you call me for bed bugs and I walk into Jurassic Park: Rodent Edition, weâre gonna have a problem. đ But at the end of the day, we do what we can to help people, even when it turns into the funniest, most unexpected situations.

Texas Weather: A Whole Mood Swing
Yâall, I donât know what in the bipolar forecast is going on, but this Texas weather has been all over the place. One day itâs freezing, the next day youâre sweating like you just ran a marathon in August, then the day after that, it feels like pumpkin spice season again. This morning? Sleet, rain, wind, darknessâI halfway expected to see the Grim Reaper waving me down at the intersection.
And letâs talk about the roads. North Dallas, we gotta do better. Folks are driving like they got a personal vendetta against common sense. Accidents everywhere, people texting at stoplights like their Instagram feed is gonna disappear if they donât refresh it, and then youâve got the impatient onesâcutting people off, honking, throwing up the middle finger like theyâre directing traffic at a rock concert. I get it, we all got places to be, but if we donât slow it down, weâre gonna end up nowhere real quick (except maybe in a ditch or calling the insurance company).
So hereâs my challenge for today: letâs all take a deep breath, be patient, and look out for one another. Let that car merge, donât tailgate like youâre drafting in NASCAR, and for the love of Texas BBQ, put the phone down while driving. The weather may be unpredictable, but kindness and patience? Thatâs something we can control.
Now letâs see what tomorrow bringsâcould be snow, could be a heatwave, could be tornadoes, or heck, we might wake up in a whole new season. But whatever it is, letâs handle it with grace (and maybe a good set of tires). Yâall stay safe out there!

Super Bowl Sunday Junk Removal â A Call I Couldnât Ignore!
Man, let me tell yâall about my Sunday. I was chilling with the family, feet kicked up, watching the Super Bowl. Kendrick Lamar was on that halftime stage performing They Not Like Us, and the energy was crazy! The crowd was bumping, hands waving, people vibing in New Orleansâpure electric atmosphere. And me? I was enjoying some of that legendary Rotel dip, cheese, and meat, savoring every bite.
Then out of nowhereâring, ring! My phone goes off. Now, I couldâve ignored it, but something told me to answer. âHey, uh⊠is there any way you can help me out today?â
I paused. Super Bowl Sunday? Man, folks are at the grocery store, hosting parties, just kicking back. But here I was, putting down my plate, hopping off the couch, and getting to work. I pull up, and what do I see? A mattress, a box spring, and a grill sitting there, waiting to be hauled off. I couldnât help but laugh. âThis really couldnât wait âtil tomorrow?â
But hey, thatâs what I doâI show up when people need me, even on the biggest football night of the year. Got the job done, got back home, and guess what? The Eagles won!

The other day, I got a message on Facebook from someone representing a local non-profit. They said they saw my friendly face and just knew I was the guy who would be willing to help with a hoarder house cleanout for a senior citizen in desperate need.
Now, yâall know Iâm all about giving back to my community and helping those in need. So, I agreed to check out the situation.
I pull up to the house and meet with the non-profitâs office manager. Before I even step inside, she starts prepping me for what Iâm about to walk into. Sheâs looking at me like sheâs about to tell a ghost story.
âSir, before you go in, I need to warn you⊠there are snakes, possums, rats, roaches, bedbugsâŠâ
At this point, I stop her.
âMaâam, Iâve been in hundreds of homes like this. Nothing is new to me.â
Then she hits me with the plot twist.
âOh⊠but everything is inside the home.â

So I take a deep breath (big mistake) and step inside. Instant regret.
First thing I notice? This is no place for a human being to live.
đ Human and dog feces? Everywhere.
đ Trash piled up to the ceiling.
đ Maggots doing the electric slide across the floor.
đ The smell? You could bottle it up and use it as a biological weapon.
And sitting in the middle of all this? The elderly woman who desperately needs help. My heart sinks. This isnât just junkâthis is someoneâs life, someoneâs reality.
I stay calm, empathetic, and understanding. I tell them Iâd be willing to donate my time but needed to know their budget.
Thatâs when the office manager hits me with:
âOh, we donât have a budget.â
âŠ
Me: âSooo⊠whoâs paying for this?â
Her: âThe community will pay for it! We build homes all over North Texas, and our volunteers assist with projects like these.â
Me: âThatâs fantastic. However⊠your volunteers arenât going to do this job. Itâs dangerous, hazardous, and youâre putting your people at risk.â
She nods. I give her a number. She cringes. âOooooh⊠let me call the office manager.â
I step outside to get some air (again, big mistake) and thatâs when I notice something that makes me do a double take.
đ Parked right in front of this home? A $100,000 Range Rover.
Now, Iâm not saying people canât be charitable and drive nice cars⊠but something about âwe donât have a budgetâ and âwe got a six-figure luxury SUVâ just wasnât mathinâ for me.
Anyway, I call the office manager.
Her: âOh, we have our own volunteers and our own trucks and trailers. Weâve been doing this for 18 years, so we got it handled from here.â

So let me get this straightâyou brought me all the way out here, had me mentally prepare for a Hoarders: Extreme Edition, told me you had no budget, only to then say, âOh, we got itâ???
WHY DID YOU EVEN CALL ME?!
At this point, I just shake my head and leave.
I get in my truck, and thatâs when it hits meâŠ
That foul, lingering odor.
I hop out, look under my shoes, andâyep.
Dog poop and human feces. All over them.
So here I am, in the middle of the street, scraping my boots against the curb like a man whoâs reconsidering all his life choices.
Moral of the story?
1. Some people will waste your time just because they can.
2. Just because someone says they âneed helpâ doesnât mean they really do. Have a great day everyone!
