KILL YOUR DARLINGS
To make a masterpiece you need time.
So how do you make an epic Video Ad from a 12 minute off the cuff VSL in just 48 hours?
You kill your darlings.
You cut, cut, cut until all the story beats are there, but with no repeats, no hesitations and only the BEST lines of copy.
What are the best lines of copy?
Those that provide facts, invoke emotion and important information.
So why cut it so much?
2 reasons:
1: retention
2: consistency
You want people to keep watching which means you need to keep the story moving, you want the correct pacing so people can anticipate change and you want consistent style and visuals - which to do great can easily take 3-4 hours per minute.
And nobody wants to do 40+ hours of editing in the next 48 hours.
You COULD go ham on the intro, but then people will drop off as the consistency of the video drops off.
I have a rough cut of said video ad here, and as you can see teal is the hook, orange and blue are the story beats broken into "chapters" and the red section is the CTA
You can see just from looking at it that it's evenly paced.
In fact - when I made a speaker reel for Carrie Wilkerson recently I noticed the orange section on her video was twice as long, and it made me feel like that section went on for too long.
Guess what - her only comment was "I think the dad bit drags on", and I already knew that the pacing in my timeline would be clear in the video.
Quite cool when you think about it.
Anyway - we've got 12 minutes down to 4, if I'm going to get 4-6 music tracks in here, mix them down, B Roll, Titles, Graphics and sound effects, in just 48 hours - I really want to get this down to 3 minutes.
Let me know if you found this insightful as I think it's pretty cool to see a modular approach to editing!

⚠ How to build an Inbound-Only Freelance Business ⚠
1. Create something that demonstrates your skills
2. Post that shit EVERYWHERE to attract your first client
3. Close your first client
5. EXCEED expectations
6. Focus on getting clients RESULTS (not your ROI)
7. Share your results / work to attract more clients
8. Go back to step 5.
9. Get 1% better each time
Keep doing this and your clients will come back and even your clients will get you clients.
THAT IS IT!
Step 2 didn't work? Go back to Step 1 and do it better.
Step 6 didn't get results? Go back to Step 1 and do it better.
This is literally all you need to know. I don't care about your website, what platform you're on - or where you are at in your journey, because you just go back to Step 1!
If you are still stuck with this I have a 3 hour course on creating the perfect FIVERR gig which you can apply to any other freelance platforms, you can get that on Skillshare (get a free month here skl.sh/3VByc8x
If you want a 7 step video guide to dominating social media (how to optimise your profile, what to post etc.) I have a $47 video course with a step by step checklist you can get here

Hope this helps!

By cutting a script up into chapters and visually color coding each chapter, you can ensure consistent pacing of the video. You can than add in music to fit the "vibe" of each chapter before mixing in audio transitions giving you your "radio edit".

I'm uploading ads and edits to Instagram again!
My Instagram with a few hundred followers and five years of ads got DELETED, with no explanation.
I've created a new Instagram and just uploaded my second video ad there, a "speaker reel" for performance coach Carrie Wilkerson.
If you'd like to check it out and see future ads - why not follow me on IG! You can check the video out here www.instagram.com/p/DAGfTDQA2v7/

1 Million Views! Unreal guys thank you.
Probably half of that came from my Midjourney Video course and to be honest - I'm not sure how to follow up from that or even if I want to. I feel like that part is done, and as a video editor - I honestly don't use AI that much!
I'm not trying to play the Youtube game for money or clout, it doesn't align with what I really love and want to do, just know that the next video if and when I post - will be a banger.
Thanks again for your support!

To achieve financial freedom you need your passive income to EXCEED your monthly outgoings. Now while I have a client that pays me $7,500 per month, that equates to around £4,000 per month after tax, PLUS it takes me 2-3 weeks to complete this client (which leaves me 1-2 weeks to create long term "passive" income streams like courses and content - stuff that doesn't pay you instantly).
Not only that but having one single high paying client also comes with it's downsides. Over time they expect more of you and there's nothing concrete to say they will even stay - so how do we combat this?
My rent alone is £1,100 - with all the bills that comes to around £1,600 per month, which is absolutely achievable but it still adds financial pressure because if that client goes, and I have 1-2 weeks to find another one, what can I do? It also means that I have less energy and time to invest in those long term assets like youtube and course creation / optimisation.
So I've decided to make a move - and it feels like going backwards to go forwards.
I'm cutting down ALL my expenses and finding a shared accomodation which will knock £600 a month straight off my monthly expenses. By doing this I have less reliance on clients and more time and energy to build those passive income streams which will get me to where I really want to be.
From there - any excess income will go straight off my car which is an additional £475 a month currently. When the car is paid off I will only need £1,000 per month to be "financially free", and I feel like this is when I will TRULY be able to dig in to longer, higher quality creative projects and that's when I think things will TRULY blow up.
I'm extremely inspired by this book I'm reading called "10X is Easier than 2X".
The general gist of this book is being able to LET GO of the 80% of the work you are doing that is keeping you where you are (client work), and focussing that energy on things that will get you to where you want to be. That is - escaping from Ryancollinsvideo (or at least being the bottleneck), creating DOPE trainings for video editors that get them to my level (or better) and then focussing on getting clients in for those students, providing them with work, clients with great videos and relieving myself of the Freelance pressure that I've been under for nearly 6 years.
I'm uploading a new module to my Video Ad Masterclass on Udemy as we speak - this module is "the video editing formula" and I break down the exact repeatable steps I take to create Cinematic trailer style videos for my clients, in the hopes that I can find some talent to help me achieve my goals while providing students with paid work.
This is exactly what I went through as a young freelancer and I feel like it's time to pass the torch.
The module isn't finished yet - but I have a Udemy coupon for the course which already has 4.5 hours of content in it for just $13.99, so if you're interested in learning from me and hopping on this journey, let me help you 10X your Freelance Video Editing career while I 10X mine. You can get the course by hitting this link here

I also reccomend reading 10X is easier than 2X!
Sometimes you have to go backwards to go forwards.
Thanks for reading!
