Hey, folks! This isn't about music or anything, but my friend Jacob is making a movie and I'm super excited for it and I wanted to share the kickstarter: www.kickstarter.com/projects/weirdhat/beverly-bunn… Jacob's done a lot of really cool projects in the past, including some award-winning animated short films, and they're all super cute so I can't wait for his feature-length debut.

Hey folks! Question: If I were to make a video where I tried to work out what the best possible scale is in a fun, tongue-in-cheek sort of way, what are some scales you'd like me to consider? (For the sake of my sanity, I'm only gonna be looking at scales that can be played in 12-tone equal temperament. No offense to other tuning systems, just gotta start somewhere, y'know?)

Hey! So I don't do this very often, but it appears YouTube's recommendation algorithm got all wonky around the time I uploaded last week's video and a lot of people didn't get notifications or recommendations for it and it wound up getting like half what it should have, view-wise. There's not much to be done about that now, but I figured I'd post here to give y'all another chance to see that it exists. Thanks! watch video on watch page

Hey! So we got invited to collab with PBS's great history channel Origin Of Everything to talk about one of the most famously patriotic songs ever written. Check it out! watch video on watch page

Hey, so I probably should've done this a while ago but I put together a video on my side channel about patreon, sponsorships, and the creator economy, so if you're wondering what's going on with me you should check it out. Also, unrelated, go subscribe to my side channel if you want more updates, behind the scenes, and other stuff that I don't think really fits on the main channel! watch video on watch page

Hey, so some good news: Guns N' Roses has dropped their claim on the Sweet Child O' Mine video so it's up again! Being down for a couple weeks likely killed its algorithmic fortune, though, so if you haven't seen it yet now might be a good time to check it out: watch video on watch page

Hey, folks. So I've been getting some questions about where my Sweet Child O' Mine and Stairway To Heaven videos went, and I wanted to address that here so everyone knows what's going on. The short version is this: Warner Chappell and their associates have found my work, and are testing to see how I'll react to their attempts to claim it as infringement. To be perfectly clear, it is not infringement, I take extreme steps to make sure my work is 100% Fair Use, but modern copyright law is a mess, and as far as I can tell they're exploiting that to try and harass me into shutting down. I have no intention of letting them, but part of that process involves them issuing takedown notices that I then have to contest. At this moment I don't know exactly when the videos will be back up, I've filed the final appeal on the Sweet Child one which basically says they have to either actually sue me or drop the claim, and given the fact that any decent IP lawyer will immediately recognize that they have no case I expect the latter, but I can't be certain. The Stairway video is not as far along in the process, so I'm less sure what's going to happen with that one. In the meantime, having the videos taken down impacts the way the algorithm sees us, so if you'd like to help out probably the best thing to do is go watch some of our other videos to help compensate for that loss.
I do want to be clear here that, while YouTube could be doing more to support independent creators on this sort of thing, this is fundamentally not their fault. Their hands are largely tied by modern copyright law, and the system is a lot better than it used to be. I sympathize with their position, and while their hands aren't entirely clean here, I think it's important that the lion's share of the blame be placed on the companies actually exploiting the system.
Anyway if you want to stay updated on this, I've been talking about it over on twitter, so follow me over there: twitter.com/12tonevideos

I've never used this panel before, but YouTube's choking the distribution on this video 'cause it's mad at me for making a Patreon video, so in case you missed it I figured I'd give y'all another chance. It's good, I promise! watch video on watch page
