YouTube Tips : Your YouTube Banner

So, you’ve sorted out your thumbnails (yesterdays topic), what’s the next thing to lookout?

Well, if people are clicking through to your videos after a searching your niche and liking the thumbnails and hopefully the video too……well they could go to your channel page.

You’ll have a page now filled with great looking and ON BRAND thumbnails. However, what about everything else on the channel page?

First things first, your YouTube banner. Make sure you get one put together, like your thumbnails keep it simple, but try to say what the channel is about and potentially when you’ll be posting too. A good YouTube banner is eye-catching, readable, and conveys the brand of the YouTube channel. The best banners would include your brand's logo and channel name. Some great banners also include high-quality photos and graphics to create visual interest.

Tomorrow we’ll talk about what else you can do with your channel pages to make life easier for your amazing community, and don’t forget, if you don’t want to wait for posts every single day you can just drop me a line directly and we can book in a call to look at your YouTube and even help by taking all the worries off your hands and do it for you.

YouTube tips : Thumbnails

So, let’s start with pretty much the first thing people see when it comes to searching out content.

I’ve made up these two samples…..which one would capture your attention more?

Hopefully one of these caught your attention more than the other and hopefully it’s version 1.

Now you’ll start to understand why a thumbnail is so important. If the first thing people see after searching for content in your niche is a none inspiring thumbnail are they likely to click on that content, or will they move on to the next thing in their search?

So here are some top tips for your thumbnails…….

1. Get the sizing right 1280x720 is the standard sizing, also keep it under 2mb in size
2. Use a decent image, try to use nice contrasting colours too so as to capture the eye of the viewer
3. Don’t make it too busy….yes that’s right, the old adage of “less is more” really does work here
4. Add some text and preferably something connected to the title of the video
5. Be consistent, use the same font’s etc. You don’t always need the same colours but this is where having a good brand guidelines in place helps so you have a selection colours to chose from
6. Try to be original. Copying someone else’s style is OK, but put your own creative side into it.

So, now you’ve got these simple tips, take a look at your channel, could you go back through your content and make your videos more appealing to an audience. It’s not too late, start changing up your thumbnails as soon as you can, you can load them at anytime on most platforms especially YouTube which is what this is all about (sadly not LinkedIn as yet).

Don’t forget, if you need any help with your video content and YouTube channel I’m happy to chat and potentially take that worry off your plate for you too.
