I wasn't expecting to find this old school gem! With this tape, my earliest off air recording is on the doorstep of the 70s - a July 1980 recording of Cleopatra with the commercials and bumpers included. I'd be tickled pink if I found an off air recording from the 70s - even 1979 would be cool 😎 watch video on watch page

I'm tickled pink, I'm humbled, and I'm thankful for all of you who have enjoyed the videos 😊 It warms my heart to see all the nostalgic comments of the days gone by. The way I see it, tv, commercials and media are like time capsules to different places and spaces in time.

I started this channel as a glorified "tape dump" /"tape repository" and honestly it still kind of operates that way. I had zero expectations for what the future would hold or all of the outreach and support from all of you.

Now that the weather is warmer and yard sale season is here, I'll be searching and perusing for more tapes to capture and material to upload.

All of this, the sourcing of tapes, capturing of tapes, upkeep of 30, 40 year old electronics, editing, uploading, is stuff I do on my own free time after work and other commitments. I never have, and I never, ever will gatekeep or put any of my content behind a paywall of any sort. I would be humbled and thankful for your support to help source more tapes and to help potentially repair my betamax. buymeacoffee.com/Jsclassictv

Cheers to 5,000 subscribers, and here's to the climb to the next goal, 10,000 subscribers! 😁

Howdy everyone!

I'll be blunt - I'm broke and my betamax is broken. It'll probably be over $300 to either fix it or get another working betamax deck.

Everything on this channel, the sourcing of tapes, capturing, editing, uploading, is stuff I do on my own free time and out of my own pocket.

I'm going to keep capturing and editing VHS tapes on my VHS VCR. I want to save up money to either fix the betamax or get another betamax altogether.

I'll never gatekeep or put any of my videos behind any paywall - I have some episodes of Seinfeld to go through tonight and upload. I would be humbled for your support to help fix the betamax and keep the content on this channel going.

Howdy yall!

The road to 5k continues. I went to an estate sale today and got a nice haul of tapes 👌I'm gonna honestly just grab them at random and start capturing them one by one.

This WNEV news clip that aired 40 years ago today is the oldest off air news footage I have. It was one of the first winters where my grandfather was the Flying Santa, where he would visit lighthouses up and down the east coast to deliver presents to the families that lived on the lighthouses. I wish I had more of this clip, I hope you enjoy it! watch video on watch page

I hope everyone is having a joyous holiday season!

I'm a bit of a perfectionist, I've been going through older videos with tapes I captured on sub-par VHS decks, and recapturing them on the Panasonic AG-1980P thru DMR-ES15. I recently finished recapturing my 2009 GSN 100k Pyramid Marathon and I'm editing the videos now. I still have some recently found tapes that I need go through and see what's on them - that's how I found the 1995 episode of Jeopardy and other 1995 commercials for example.

I'm currently sitting at around 4,800 subscribers - maybe I'll hit 5,000 before the end of the year :O
I started all of this as a side hobby after I moved out of my home town. When we were unpacking the stuff from the old house to the new one, my father for some dumbass reason wanted to throw out bins of video tapes. I was like "Nuh uh, I will take these and figure out what to do with them all, thank you very much!"
DigitalFAQ has been a wicked awesome resource for learning how to capture tapes and edit them - especially the best way to deinterlace them to 60fps and upscale to 4k. The way I see it, videos, programs, entertainment, is meant to be seen and to be shared, not hoarded away stashed in a vault for nobody to ever lay eyes on again. I'm humbled that I've been able to help fill the gaps in missing media and I hope to keep going and uncovering rare gems. Watching old videos is like stepping into a whole other world, it's wild to see how the world was 'pre-internet' I suppose. I smile when I see everyone's comments about how certain commercials will 'unlock core memories' from their childhood.

It'll be my fifth year in April of uploading videos on YouTube, I hope to do this for another 5, 10, 50, 500 years if we get the technology... :P Thank you all for putting up with my glorified tape dump, I hope you enjoy the show :)

I hate to sound like a Karen, but, there's a few things I want to clear up and clarify:

All of this, the sourcing of video tapes, the upkeep, maintenance, repairing of VHS and Betamax players, capturing of tapes, then editing the videos down - all of it is out of my own pocket and in my own time.

Capitalism is a cult on a downward death spiral and I'm not going to shame anyone for hustling to make ends meet - there is no ethical consumption under capitalism.

I don't have one iota in me to even think about monetizing any of what I do, full stop. Not today, not tomorrow, not week, not next year, not 5, 10 years down the road. I will never gatekeep or put any of my content behind a paywall or any financial barrier or obstacle of any kind. I want all of my videos and content to be accessible to anyone and everyone around the world regardless of their ability to fork over their hard-earned money.

I have no problem with anyone who would like to use my videos, in whole or in part, for either commentary, entertainment, educational, whatever purposes they see fit. I fully admit that I haven't done the best job of cataloging and indexing my videos - who knows if there's a commercial on some random newscasts that someone is looking for to complete their collection - if I can help fill in the puzzle pieces of missing and lost content, I consider that a job well done.

What I have a problem and issue with, is folks who will use the content I put up, and then use that content to monetize it themselves, whether it's taking YouTube videos that I have uploaded, and putting them up behind a paywall on Patreon/their own YouTube channel/other platforms (without providing any credit or notice that they had grabbed the video from YouTube in the first place) and pretending it's their own content and not provide even the slightest bit of credit to how they had sourced the (free) content.

I understand and acknowledge that anything and everything will get scrubbed. When I see instances of videos being used for monetary purposes, I will ask that credit for the source be provided - simple as that.

I've ran into a weird issue with this video - about a week ago, it lost the ability to play in 60fps for some reason. If I check the quality settings, only 30fps is an option.

I've reached out to YouTube support and unfortunately I've been getting the same copy-paste responses about how the video is "processing" - this video was uploaded in December 2021 and it had 60 fps when it was released. It does not make sense that this video suddenly lost the 60fps option overnight, and I wish the support at Youtube would stop sending me the same copy-paste response about the video processing. I feel like I have no other choice but to re-upload this video *again* so it plays correctly in 60fps. watch video on watch page

Rest in peace to Michael Tiller of The Game Show Temple Archive youtube.com/@gameshowtemplearchives8809

Like his namesake channel, Michael was one of the leaders for archiving old game show episodes and for helping the community to keep the tapes trading!

I have fond memories of watching his channel and being excited for a new upload or a never before seen episode or clip.

Not to mention the games Michael himself hosted and the fun and excitement that entailed.

I trust that all of us in the tape trading community will keep Michael's legacy with us as we continue to share and enjoy media for years to come.

Rest in Peace, Michael.
