âCome Togetherâ is a bridge between past and the present Sinkane music. It is a familiar sound and message laced with new energy grounded in a way that previous Sinkane work wasnât. It is the by-product of a lot of self work and, more importantly, a newfound self-love.â
Bruno Ferreira, director of the stunning accompanying music video, shares how the idea of the video came together: âWhen I started listening to âCome Together,â some old images of Mandigas, the traditional Cape Vert characters that perform during Carnival Season to scare Demons and bad vibes away, came to mind. With these images in my head, I immediately wanted to work with the Mandigas to film a love letter to Africa. So we traveled to SĂŁo Vicente and Santo AntĂŁo in Cape Vert to find people and places to include in our love letter. Without the open arms and hearts of these amazing people and their country, this would not have been possible. It still moves me how we were welcomed and how curious they were about Sinkaneâs music and origins.â

Itâs been a week since SXSW. Simply put: we did the damn thing. Crushed. Played a million and one shows. Ate every single one. What a crew, yall.
Had a wonderful chat about family with my old friend Nabil Ayers for his new podcast. Did a coffee cupping at Proud Mary Roastery. It was so much fun! I canât wait for whatâs in store this year!
Now Iâm on tour with @blackviolin. Theyâve treated me so well. The shows have been so spectacular and the fans have welcomed me with open arms.
Oh yeah⊠maybe keep an eye for something new this week? đ đ

Hello, my lovelies
I am beyond thrilled to announce that my new album, âWe Belongâ, will be released on April 5th via City Slang Records. Not gonna lie to you all. This album is a fucking bop.
I got to work with some of my favorite musicians: Bilal, Money Mark , Tru Osborne, STOUT, Hollie Cook, Casey Benjamin, Sheddrick Mitchell, Aja Grant, Ifedayo, Amanda Khiri, Mikey Freedom Hart just to name a few.
Also, something very peculiar happened while making this album.
I got a random text from a foreign number. Someone meaning to text his daughter. Usually, Iâd delete and block these things. But this one was interesting. This text was about African-American poets. Ishmael Reed, Sonia Sanchez, Nikki Giovonni, Audre Lord.
I decided to respond to this guy. And, well, we got to know each other. The text was an honest mistake. Will Halsey is his name. It turned out that we had a lot in common. Not only our love for poets from the Black Arts Movement. But also music, musicals and life in general. We began to text frequently. Sharing poems back and forth, new and old. Together, weâd analyze poems and songs. Heâd tell me fun anecdotes about what it was like living in New York in the 60s and 70s. Eventually, I started talking to him about the album that I was making. Iâd send him lyrics that Amanda and I had been working on. Weâd talk through ideas that I couldnât quite translate into lyrical form. He helped me figure it all out. Kind of like an editor. Or even a spiritual guide. We plan to meet up for the first time later this month and listen to the record together. He still hasnât heard it! Slide 3 is the video of me talking to him on the phone for the first time!
âWe Belongâ is my love letter to Black people and our cultures all around the world. You can pre-order it here: sinkane.lnk.to/WeBelongYD
Have a wonderful day, my friends.

Sinkane's new album 'We Belong' is out now on City Slang!
Ahmed Gallab of Sinkane has always paved his own way, defying all odds and beating expectations. With seven albums under his belt and an illustrious career as a composer, producer, and band leader, he has orchestrated remarkable projects. Born to Sudanese parents and raised as a skate punk kid in Ohio, Gallabâs music is his personal story, but it's also everyone's story. This truly universal approach leaves no room for irony or cynicism. Fueled by Gallab's very heartbeat, it erupts into an ambitious, dazzling sound.
Sinkane fuses elements of krautrock, electronica, reggae, and funk rock with Sudanese pop to create music inspired by his experiences. Prior to embarking on his solo career, he worked with Eleanor Friedberger, Caribou and more as a session musician. As Band Leader and Music Director of the Atomic Bomb! Band, heâs collaborated with group members including David Byrne, Money Mark, Damon Albarn and many others.
