Cool A$$ early 2000's #Retro Ad

Dtec just kicked in yo! You can keep your fancy laptops, all I need is my Gameboy Advance SP!!
Man I still want one for funsies but Turbo XS came out with the sweet little gadget in 2004. I think the first time I saw one of these in the wild was at the NOPI HIN/ Hot Import Nights Chicago in 2007 and I fell in love because being a big ol nerd even back then I couldn't believe everything you could do with it and still play some Pokemon while you wait for the tow truck cuz you held that Scramble map button down just a bit too long (the whole race ok)

Some of the things the Dtec could do (just using the Gameboy, and Dtec brainbox/ sensor hub, and running through the gameboy's link cable port) :

-Boost Control and Boost gauge display
-store 5 different maps that could all behave differently depending on inputs from throttle position sensor, injector duty readings, RPM, knock sensor, etc
-Wideband integration and Narrowband sim
-its own knock sensing
-overboost protection
-data logging and full windows PC communication
-you could also add a damn 2nd boost control solenoid (so you could control top and bottom ports on wastegates that benefited from it at higher boost.
-it even had a very early/ light duty sort of antilag (much closer to PWM controlled duty cycle on the Wastegate solenoid but I digress)

Still nuts to me this product existed and Im still to this day a little sad that they abandoned their plans to make a Nintendo DS version of this....

#Flashback Friday I spose? Holy heck I love this ad, especially considering its semi-local to me. Every 1g or 2g Mitsubishi Eclipse ever built, started life in Normal Illinois, which was only a couple hours drive for me. The best era for Mitsubishi stateside happily coincided with the 90s heyday of the Chicago Bulls during Michael Jordan's Championship era, so of course there was some local cross promotion for it. Also neat to see a "2ga" (95-96) Eclipse in promotions, as nowadays you mostly see the 97-99 revised front end "2gb" being remembered.

#wayback Wednesday, loving the framing on this #CarandDriver cover from 1990! First official year of the Mitsubishi Eclipse / Eagle Talon / Plymouth Laser. The closest the USA would get to a proper Evo pre 2000 (not counting the GVR4 of course)
