Found a composition flaw in this ad on YouTube. Do you see the unwanted illusion being created?
Her teeth are coinciding with the highlight in the background...creating rabbit teeth. This is a quick fix in Photoshop, but if you’re not familiar with design techniques or Gestalt Psychology principles mistakes like this will slip through the cracks...sending the wrong message to the viewer.
The last thing we want to do is confuse the viewer...especially if it’s costing ad money to communicate to them.
Thanks for all of the support, I hope you’re all safe!! 😄😷🙏🏼❤️

I hope you are all safe and healthy!! 🙏🏼❤️
Here’s a pic from a swimsuit shoot where I used the 1.5 grid on my LCD and posed the model to create a dominant sinister diagonal.
When you use dynamic symmetry grids, you automatically promote unity, rhythm, movement and strength. You’ll also have to be aware of design techniques but take one thing at a time.
For instance, if you look at her arms, they are posed away from her body to help create an aspective view. This helps with visual clarity, much like figure-ground relationship does.

I saw this advertisement while walking through the mall. See any techniques that could be improved? This is why understanding Gestalt Psychology principles (visual perception) is important for your art. This example demonstrated three principles. 1. If figure-ground relationship was considered, the foreground subject would be clearly defined. 2. Since the background face is in close proximity (Law of Proximity) to the breast of the main subject, they are grouped together. 3. The Law of Pragnanz creates this illusion of a face growing from her chest. Learn to avoid these kinds of illusions and bring visual clarity to your art! I’m here to help if you have questions😀📸🎨

I walked by a local gallery today...mostly paintings and prints for tourists in there. What caught my eye was the exact same composition in these paintings by two different artists. This is a great demonstration of why the rule of thirds is a bad starting point for beginners; some artists never advance past it😢This is fine if you’re content and happy with your results, but if you’re wanting to get serious about your compositions, I’m here to help. Please ask questions about dynamic symmetry or composition if you have them! Let’s change the future of art together!💪🏼📸🎨

I made quite
the mess when I pulled out my recording gear, but a new video is on the way! Thanks for your patience while I finished the dynamic symmetry book 🙏🏼😊

Did you know the phi ratio is within the face and it directly relates to dynamic symmetry? Not just the eyes, but the nose, lips, eyebrows, chin, hairline...many things. Three squares equal the root 9 rectangle, and one square with two phi rectangles equal the root 5 rectangle. See how they all relate to the square and each other? Not all faces are created equal, but it's interesting to see how we can manipulate these proportions when wanting to draw unique characters, or compare them to other portrait photos.

If you're sick and tired of the basic techniques guiding your compositions, like the rule of thirds and leading lines, then you're in the right place. Composition is far more elaborate than placing your subject on a cross hair, or leading a straight line to them.
If you're a huge fan of the rule of thirds, no worries...I was too! I was using it in every shot, but it never helped my compositions. In fact, it made me create similar compositions every time; compositions that looked like everyone else'. I set out to find the most powerful design techniques, and find them I did! That's what I teach, to help thriving photographers push past their plateau.
My name is Tavis and I'm a fine art photographer, author, blogger, and educator of composition techniques, Gestalt psychology principles (visual perception) and dynamic symmetry.
