Music Theory is a mixed bag of information. I suppose an easy comparison would be grammar.
All of us understand basic grammar rules; in fact, we know the basics so well that we don't even know how we know them. But there are also many other advance grammar rules that most of us don't know, and they don't affect our ability to read, write and articulate in conversation.
In the same way, Music Theory has some very basic and fundamental concepts that are necessary for us as musicians; but , not every single concept is beneficial to every musician.
So is it worth it? Yes.
But it also depends on what you want to get out of your musical vocabulary; and you don't need to be a genius to be a great musician.
Master the fundamentals and apply them to your everyday playing!
