well CDF VII was a blast! i shot a bunch of footage, this time was a solo mission. the 1st day was balcony tripod action for the 1st 4 bands then down on the floor for soilent green cancer and dismember. day 2 i multi cammed all the bands. 2 cams for funeral chant oath of cruelty and power from hell. 3 cams for evil dead sacrifice and sodom. 4 for hirax. all the bands were great, highlights for me were definitely dismember sodom and sacrifice. hirax was amazing. evil dead was cool. i also dug oath of cruelty. sacrifice was tight as fuck and great. dismember were absolutely amazing and killer. SODOM stole the entire show and capped it all off with a 90 min set of some of the fastest and heaviest metal on the planet. they fuckin ruled so hard! had a great time hangin out and seeing friends marcelle and sonny from vorlust, ross from exhumed, sam caparros from stench reel.. tom, jason and geza from the metro. amy strong! who got to see slayer and then came to cdf! danny from reality check. who told me hes basically retired. and i met some new friends too. chris broyles a taper with 20+ years experience, was up in the balcony with me, recording with a new iphone, when i introduced myself, he who knew i was and my stuff. and literally told me my tapes were legendary. it was an honor to hear that. i shared some stories with him about dan nicholson, gary shurtleff and jerry allen, and what we were up to in the 90's and 2000's. gareth morris from dullahan prod. who recorded the audio with a 24 track digital recording. another friend rodney benjamin from high school who came up and said thank you for recording, documenting, and everything ive done to help keep the scene thriving. which was also an honor to hear. i also bought a bunch of records from the sacrifice merch booth, the new 7" hirax from anne at the hirax merch booth. and a bunch of old metal and punk records from driptone reocrds from LA, who were here slingin wax at the show. had a few beers, some food. yeah. good times. soooo.. i will be putting out some of the footage asap. probably 1 song from each band for right now. like usual. and then later on, full sets. Cheers!! keep on watching this channel!! as chuck schuldiner once wrote on my leprosy picture disc.. "METAL 4 EVER!!"

The channel has now surpassed the 3,700 mark for subscribers! That's incredible! thank you to all the new subscribers and everyone who come here to watch and hit the like button! I really appreciate it! The Pantera Las Vegas 97 video that Dan shot has been crazy to watch go from under a 100 views to 25k plus in about a year or so. the top ten list changes so dramatically. I never thought the Jeff Hanneman video would drop off the list , ever! It did and came back, twice! I also never thought Dan's Manson Warfield 97 video would explode too, but it did. Thanks again to everyone who comes to this channel to watch my videos or Dan's videos. Cheers!

Ok.. Jeff Hanneman has been gone for ten years. When the SF bay area mourned his loss, we came together and put on the Hannemania show. Hanneman Lecter was the headliner for that show, comprised of some bay area local heavy hitters and some even heavier guest players. The Jeff Hanneman Memorial Biography video that I did was made specifically for that show. And that was the first time anyone saw that video, as it played right before H.L. took the stage. I posted that and began the process of editing the H.L. set from that night and it was only ever released as a bootleg style DVD for the band members and other people that were involved in putting on the show. Only 2 songs were released from the show on this channel, with huge watermarks on them that made everyone cringe! At the time, I only had 2 small Canon Vixia hf 21 HD cams, and a bunch of other SD cams. We shot 4 angles that night, 2 HD, and 2 SD. I used those and several other clips from YT that I edited in to the video to add to it. Leaving the watermarks, etc. Today I was looking for material to post and came across the H.L. folder.. I looked at the material, and the edits.. and it had some serious problems. First off, the entire project is from 10 years ago, and back then I did things differently and thought differently, than I do now. back then, since I knew I was going to produce a DVD, I decided to downconvert the HD files instead of upconvert the SD files. Just to keep things simple for the edit and DVD project. So now I'm sitting here looking at this project, and it's totally not up to par with my "today standards". The 4 cam SD DVC edit that was already sitting there on the timeline has a bunch of cuts/edits that are out of synch for some reason? I don't even know how that occurred. Also, one of Deb's .mts files is missing. That's bad. The sound is mixed weird too. Aaaand, it just kinda seems like this whole thing needs a revamp. So that's what I've decided to do. Upconvert, replace, re-edit, re-mix, etc., for an entirely new and complete version! Which will appear on the channel, it's entirety! When exactly I'm not sure, I cant put a date on it yet, it's a lot of work! So.. anyway.. yeah! that's what's up!! Cheers subscribers! Keep yer eyes peeled for this, it's gonna be good.

sooo.. since the pantera las vegas 97 video seems to have had such a big impact on all of you.. im going to do a 2 cam of it.. dans and mine, combined together. dans was a hi8 stereo 8mm master, and mine was a mono 8mm master.. edited togeter should be pretty cool. this is what dan and i envisioned so long ago.. but never got around to.. until now. so i hope you guys enjoy this. his video got 48K hits in the last 30 days.. thats quite a bit. in fact, its been quite a trip seeing all of you reacting to it. when dan and i took this trip to LV with our friends, to see black sabbath and ozzy, type o negative, pantera, etc... and all the rest of the bands, we were just doing it to party and have a good time. so this story, having a second life, the way it is, is really cool. thank you all, for watching and giving a shit.

well heres an end of the year update.. i still have about 25 8mm tapes to capture. still have about 65 of dans 8mm masters to capture and upload. i was able to purchase an old minidv deck that works and have started capturing a bunch of old mini stuff. part of that was the tidal wave stuff that got posted a little while back. im still working on that stuff. im not really sure what the new year will hold.. with my new job im not really able to just go out and shoot whatever shows i want anymore. plus.. im gettin older, and pickier about what i spend money on and travel to, etc. the ludicra show i shot at gamh, with 12 cams, was also professionally recorded by justin ennis (the audio) and will be edited by ross sewage. so that will be cool to see what he does with the footage we shot for them. that will be getting released at some point. not sure who will be putting that out. i am getting another sony ax53 and also got some more camera clamp mounts and other stuff. so hopefully ill be shooting more shows and getting more work, etc. plus the other channel, the gwarchive has tons of material to upload, as well. alright, well cheers everybody and thanks for watching!

ok just a heads up.. yngwie malmsteen had the slims show taken down. thats strike 2 for the channel. i sure hope nobody else gives me a strike, cause this channel will disappear if they do. thats a lot of work that i dont get paid for, that will disappear. again, this channel was de-monetized, by youtube, years ago.. i make zero dollars off this channel. just to be clear. also, any video that says "shot by Dan Nicholson", Dan passed away in 2019. his archive was left to me, and i decided to upload his tapes so everyone could enjoy them, for free. again, no one but the copyright holders make anything off the videos on this channel, they get ad revenue, i get nothing. ok? thanks.
