I have a difficult decision to make about the future of Plasticity, and I would like your help. Plasticity uses a third-party software library (a "kernel") to do the core algorithms, like booleans, fillets, etc. Currently Plasticity uses C3D, a powerful kernel from a Russian company. C3D is well designed and inexpensive, but it does have some bugs. Because of the invasion of Ukraine, it is difficult to do business with Russia -- and I am worried that it may become more difficult or even impossible in the near future.
Thus, I am considering moving to Parasolid. Parasolid is significantly more expensive than C3D. It has some powerful features that I’m excited about and I think you will be too. But it would force me to charge significantly more than what I’ve talked about in the past. It still won’t be subscription based but the price will be closer to $150.
If you’re someone who cares about the future or plasticity, now is the time to join this conversation. We’re talking about this mostly on the discord. But you can also comment here or email me nick@plasticity.xyz
