All weekend I would walk by this sweet old man. I’d see him. See his poor head hanging low. Always just down and only getting more down. Depressed. Shut down.
Yesterday he was written down in my notes as a “Penny”. If they weigh on you, don’t leave them behind. You’ll never forgive yourself. He was weighing on me. He was someone’s amazing horse at some point and due to his age he was thrown away like it never even meant anything ever. All that loyalty. Down the toilet.
Today one of the first things I did was call the office to see if Tag 296 was on the shipping manifest. IT WAS. They asked if I wanted him.
Now think about that question— if someone asked you that, what would you say? If you’re like me, you say yes.
This is his fundraiser — our final unicorn. @dawnolivieri is right on her post — they are unicorns, if only everyone saw them the way we did. The way you do.
And you know what’s magical about them not seeing them that way yet— it means we have the ability to change that — and WE WILL. One unicorn at a time.

How many people can say they saved a life this weekend? That they stood in the gap and changed the outcome for a horse who had no one else? Probably not many. BUT YOU CAN!
We HAVE to hit this goal.
I have to be able to make those split-second decisions—the ones that mean a horse lives instead of getting on that truck—knowing we can back it up.
Because we can’t call ourselves rescuers if we can’t commit to being better than the people who gave up on them. Otherwise… how are we any better than them?

He needs help NOW.
This baby needs to get to the vet ASAP and be seen and treated for colic. He is one of the casualties of the auction yesterday having been bought by the Kill Pen. He’s colicing.
I don’t know where his mother is or if he even has one here. I don’t even know where this baby came from.
What I do know is that he’s not doing well and he needs emergency vet care if he stands a chance to survive. I don’t know how much this is going to cost. I don’t know what the outcome of this is going to be.
What I do know is that shimmer cost $31,000. Baby Charlie cost just over $20,000. On average to save a baby it is always around $8-15,000.
Unfortunately, the reality is that these babies take a lot when they have been through a lot and when their lives are fully compromised. I don’t even know where to set this fundraiser so I’m just going to throw it out there and if you feel like donating to help, please help.
As I have updates, I will put them in the stories and if something were to happen and this little guy doesn’t make it I will update everyone and those funds will go directly towards helping us with what we are trying to accomplish today.

Meet Toby!
27 years old, sweet as can be, and one of the lucky few whose owner truly cared enough to make sure he’d never end up in the wrong hands.
This afternoon, a woman came to the auction planning to sell her horse—but before she did, she walked into the office and told them she couldn’t bear the thought of him ever being at risk of slaughter. The staff told her the best way to guarantee that… was to sell him directly to us.
So she came and found me.
She told me his story—how he was her grandkids’ step-up horse, how they did playdays and gymkhanas on him, how he gave them everything he had. And now that the kids have outgrown him, she just wanted him to have a safe, soft landing.
She asked if we would buy him for $500 and give him that.
Of course I said yes. There was no question, no bartering. Horses like Toby deserve to be protected after all they’ve given.
Crazy enough, he’s a well-papered AQHA gelding, and his half-brother is a full brother to Highbrow Cat himself. But bloodlines aside—what makes him truly special is his heart.
Welcome home, Toby. You’re safe now, and we’re going to make sure the rest of your life is everything you deserve.

we have a fundraiser for these two bucking horses at the auction. It’s for Prairie, the paint bucking horse and his friend the big bay gelding. These two were in a competition bucking just days ago and then wound up at an auction on Wednesday and then ending up here, sold the kill pen on Friday. They would both be gone now on their way to the border for Slaughter if I hadn’t seen them and followed my gut and pulled these specific two. Used for entertainment, did what was asked of them, whether they liked it or not, then tossed aside when they weren’t “good enough”. It’s sickening.
For those who have seen the previous posts and have been following Prarie …he is something special — Praries Paradise — a special name for a special horse who somehow ended up in line for hell on earth. Who knew he’d be the one to lead the charge. At every auction there’s always one horse who really pulls at your heart, who inspires you to find the strength to keep going and help as many as you can…and this month it’s him.
There’s something about him…an inner strength you can just feel being around him. You know he has fought so hard to just be accepted and loved, and has done whatever people have asked of him, despite it going against his soul, and then being used and abused for entertainment, then discarded…yet coming out the other side with that strength still intact. He’s bonded with the bay gelding so after all he’s been through, there’s no way we can rip him away from his only friend in the world.
We need to raise $5000 for each of them, which seems like a lot, but this will cover their purchase prices of $1300, plus feed, care, and vetting for the next 6-8 months.
Our two mascots — I didn’t have a plan when I saw them, but as soon as I met them I knew the only option was to find the strength to help them.
Now we just need to get these two boys fundraised for and safe. I know we can do it. If they’ve been through all that they have and still have the strength that they do…I know it’s meant to be that they crossed our path for us to make a difference for them. Let’s do this ❤️⚔️
