Its not about the 10000 hours, it’s about how you spend them.

How are you spending most of your practice time?

Pro drummers don’t just memorize random licks…

They master 3 types of fills — and they know how to move between them effortlessly.

Here’s how I break it down using my Grouping System:

1️⃣ Fixed Fills – 1-bar or 2-bar phrases built from simple groupings (like RLL or RLK), practiced with orchestration and flow. This is where you start to build vocabulary.

2️⃣ Looped Groupings – Instead of thinking in 1-bar chunks, you repeat the grouping (like RLL RLL RLL…) over the 16th note grid for 2 or 4 bars to build auditory independence and true flow.

3️⃣ Freedom Fills – No set bar length. You improvise using groupings, break patterns, hit the 1 when you feel it, and play off musical ideas in the moment.

Most drummers stay stuck in step 1, copying fills that sound cool online — but never unlock real freedom.

But if you practice the system, your fills start to sound like you.
You won’t run out of ideas again.

“What does ‘flow’ really mean as a drummer?”

Flow isn’t just losing yourself in a solo.
It’s not about playing fast, or “letting go.”
It’s the moment when your skills, your focus, and your intention align—when you’re not thinking about technique anymore.
You’re just expressing.

But here’s what most drummers miss:

Flow doesn’t happen by accident.
It’s built through intentional practice.
Through structure, repetition, and deep understanding.

👉 The freedom you’re searching for?
It’s found inside the structure you create.

This is exactly what I help serious drummers build:
A clear system that makes flow inevitable, not optional.

🥁 Curious—what’s a moment where you felt flow behind the kit? Drop it in the comments.

Most drummers quit practicing the moment it gets uncomfortable.
They hit boredom. They hit struggle. They move on.

Winners don’t move on.
They stand tall.

Hormozi said it best:
"When it gets hard, stand tall. Give your future self the evidence that even this couldn’t stop you."

Every fill you love, every groove you admire —was built through the moments most people gave up.

If you're committed to mastering your craft and want guidance on turning fundamentals into true freedom,
my coaching program might be for you.

The #1 Mistake People Make When Practicing Anything

Here’s the truth about practicing anything in life:
It’s not just what you practice.
It’s how you practice that changes everything.

You can spend hours doing something the wrong way—and get better at doing it wrong.
You can repeat something over and over—and only get slightly better.

True progress?
It comes from intentional practice.
Focused. Structured. Clear.

The same principle applies everywhere:
You don’t get fit by wandering around the gym.
You don’t master a language by memorizing random words.
You don’t become a great musician by repeating the same mistakes for hours.

Real growth happens when you have a map.
A structure.
A method that shows you where you are—and where you’re going.

🥁 Behind every confident, creative drummer is a solid practice system.
Not just random exercises, but a clear path forward.

That’s exactly what I give my students inside the Flow Collective and my coaching programs:
Step-by-step guidance that takes the guesswork out—and unlocks the creativity within.

Because practice doesn’t make perfect.
Perfect practice makes progress.
