One of our favourite startups: Luke Burras pitches Mobile Power at Ecosummit 2024. The UK startup distributes solar energy with mobile batteries as a pay-per-use service to consumers in sub-Saharan Africa to reduce the cost of electricity and replace petrol generators. Mobile Power has a very attractive business model with high IRRs and currently raises £10M to accelerate its growth. Wilhelm Stein pitches Sunmaxx PVT at Ecosummit Berlin 2024. The Dresden-based startup designs and makes PV thermal (PVT) modules that have an overall efficiency of 80% (combined electrical and thermal efficiency) as measured by Fraunhofer Institute. The innovative Sunmaxx PVT modules have superior thermal management based on integrated aluminium alloy heat exchangers originally developed in the automotive industry to cool and heat batteries. The first fully automated production line with 50 MW annual capacity is online and the first installations have been made with a focus on industrial decarbonisation. The new generation of gateways will have direct-to-satellite connections. Fast growing Dryad is backed by Stihl, Ecapital and Telus Pollinator Fund and currently raises €15M Series B. The German startup recycles PV panels at their end of life to enable a global circular solar economy. Their patented recycling technology recovers 100% of the raw materials following a reverse production approach with a focus on delamination. The first fully automated solar recycling factory in Germany is online and certified. Fridolin explains that they have a lot of supply and demand and plan to build many solar recycling factories across the world. Solar Materials is backed by First Imagine Ventures, closed its €12.2M Series A in April 2024 and currently raises €20-30M Series B.
