I tend to always be on the move, but today I was led to pause and reflect for a minute. I was brought back to a conversation I had with my brother during this past holiday season. He reminded me that where I am statistically should not be so.
This morning the Holy Spirit had me make a list of ALL that he’s helped me overcome:
- Sickness as a baby and an adult
- Death of mom
- Sexual, verbal, and emotional abuse
- Promiscuity
- Abandonment of father
- Reconciliation with father
- Death of father
- Being bullied
- Financial Hardships
- People hurt by leaders in education, corporate, and the church
- Giving the hard words to those you love
- Being rejected because the word is not received
- Identity crisis
- Homelessness abroad
- Taking care of myself since I was 19
- Taking care of others
- Working full-time and going to school full-time since I was 17
- Joined OES and in less than a month renounced OES
- Lay-off
- Termination
- False accusation
- Betrayals
- Situationship
- Break-ups
- Being lied to and lied on
- Overcoming anger issues
The list went on and on. The Holy Spirit said if you ever wonder if you have value remember how much I’ve brought you through. Remember how much was thrown at you with hopes of taking you out. Remember that your journey toward greatness was fought before you could even cognitively process anything. Remember that what I’ve brought you through exceeds the years you’ve lived. So, never deem yourself as average, never allow anyone to minimize your relationship with me, never allow others to become so familiar that they diminish what I’ve brought you through. WHY?!?! Because I’ve used and will continue using it all to show what life is like when you choose to yield it to me.
This reminder is something I believe many of us need to pause and reflect on sometimes especially when we interact with other people. One thing God has reminded me of is that what he’s brought me through has allowed me to walk others through their own challenges. It’s not a glamorous way of serving and often you get a little dirty, but there’s a grace that he’s given me to do it. No longer do I feel the need to question or compare the direction I’m going in because I realize that no one can fully relate. There may be some that God will send to connect, but ultimately my journey is my journey and no one else can or will take credit for it outside of God.
I’ve learned to not make assumptions concerning many people. In fact, I intentionally like to hear people’s stories.
This is important because I know that to many, on paper and at face value, I appear to have come from a very different background, and that sometimes leads to some people trying to mishandle or improperly position me. I know that feeling and that is why I ALWAYS ask the Holy Spirit to help me see people through his eyes. Sometimes he shows me their struggle, their trauma, their heart, their fears, but in no way does he reveal it for me to misuse it. Instead, he allows me to use it to show compassion, empathy, or sympathy. Now, this does not mean I am called to be a burden carrier for everyone because not everyone is ready to release their burdens, but it does help me to treat people well and to position them appropriately in my life.
There’s a lot of life that has been lived at my young age and I know there is even more to be lived. I thank God for keeping me close and granting me wisdom that exceeds the years I’ve been on this earth. My prayer is that this challenges you to go into a place of gratitude, to see the value God has given you, to walk with more compassion, and to see, hear, and discern through the Holy Spirit and not your natural senses. May this be the reset needed to ensure that you move forward with your identity, confidence, and hope rooted in Christ knowing that what you’ve been through is being used to get you to a greater version of who you are today. Because of God, average is not my descriptor and I am not a statistic. May this be the revelation and testimony you walk in as you continue to yield your life to Christ understanding that where you've been and where you are, still don't compare to who he designed you to become!
Resting in the fact that the Lord truly is my Shepherd!

During this month, one of the greatest messages that the Holy Spirit speaks daily is to “Trust His Plan, Pace, and Process.” This has been the most liberating statement he’s spoken especially when there have been so many pivots. When things seem to be going left or backwards, I challenge you to not turn into Mr./Ms. Fix It, but instead yield and lean into who God is and allow him to take the lead. Life is way more peaceful when we choose to relinquish control. Part of being a follower of Christ is dying to our will, fleshly desires, and our plans. Rather than seeking God to make what we want happen, choose to approach him differently and authentically by simply asking him what he needs us to learn about him, from him, and what he needs us to do for him today!

One thing God keeps reminding me is to trust his timing. In moments when I thought I was behind or delayed, he showed me that certain things needed to take longer because I was still connected to people who either wouldn’t authentically celebrate or enhance what he was releasing, and there were still some things within me that would have sabotaged what he plans to release. The level of contentment I have trusting God’s timing and process is truly by his grace and I’m beyond grateful for it. In a world that teaches us to be anxious, selfishly ambitious, and impulsive, I’m able to be still, receive peace, and rest knowing that his will, timing, and process are perfect and will ensure that I am well postured to be a good steward of what he desires to release!
Take some time today to embrace being still, receiving the peace of God and resting in the truth of who he is and what he has said!
