Have you heard of telemedicine? Also called e-medicine, itโs a remote clinical service which is delivering healthcare services using technology. For the first time in Rukum, a remote clinical service was successfully implemented last week to innovatively tackle mental health care in remote areas.

Here are a bunch of enthusiastic young people in Nawalparasi West during an electrical wiring training session. Each of them has a unique story about why they joined this training programme supported by UMN, and they all share the dream of becoming electricians, serving their communities, and building a better life. They seem to enjoy the hands-on lessons in wiring, electrical circuits, lights and switches. This year about sixty young people have received this training through UMNโs resilient livelihoods projects.
Equipping young people with practical skills and training for real life challenges and opportunities is never a waste.

UMN works in addressing human trafficking and promoting safe migration through different projects.
Just recently in Nawalparasi District, through the coordination on the local government, local police and the Child Rights Committee, two adolescent girls (age 15, 16) were rescued and dropped off at the police station for their protection and safe return to their homes. But very sadly, two other girls were trafficked across the border to India (age 10, 11). Both cases were investigated by the police.
Prakash Sunuwar, who leads the SCRIP project of UMN in Nawalparasi says, โWe were deeply saddened by the news and immediately collaborated with UMNโs Child Rights Committee to offer our support. Thankfully, the two girls have now returned and we are making arrangements, to send them to Kathmandu (child help line centre #1098) for their studies, as their families are unable to support them financially. We press on in our commitment to ending human trafficking and educating the community on these crucial issues to protect vulnerable children.โ

UMN organised a Do No Harm (DNH) training for staff from nine Local Capacity for Peace (LCP) Network member organisations from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal from 14 - 21 July 2024. As part of the training, trained facilitators held a two-day DNH orientation for UMN staff and Bread for the World partner organisations โ (Sahas Nepal, FIAN Nepal, Change Action Nepal and Sansthagat Bikash Sanjal) with 63 participants altogether. DNH is a key tool for conflict sensitivity. The training aimed to prepare DNH trainers within the LCP member organisations who can take DNH initiatives in their respective organisations.

A staple food in Nepal, rice plantation usually starts around mid-June and lasts for a couple of months, with harvesting starting in early October.
