Climate lads on tour! Climate lads on tour!

Was honoured to be invited back to 10 Downing St to have breakfast with Ed Miliband and a dozen climate creators (including ya boy Dave Borlace from ‪@JustHaveaThink‬ ) this morning.

We discussed how the department for energy security and net zero can more effectively engage the public on climate issues, and how we can build a two way conversation with experts and the public.

Met some truly inspiring people and definitely came away with several ideas for future projects!

So just before I started filming my most recent video, having built the planet but not put anything on it yet, an accident happened that came within a few inches of completely destroying my work, and preventing the video from ever existing.

The story of that accident - and much more behind the scenes of making the video - is in the latest vlog, out now on Patreon! www.patreon.com/simonoxfphys

I went to see Kyoto at the Soho place - about the groundbreaking Kyoto climate agreement and the lawyer hired by big oil to derail proceedings - and it was fantastic. Simultaneously infuriating and inspiring, it brings UN climate negotiations to life and highlights the genuine heroism of some of the negotiators.

Everyone in the audience was given a lanyard, and some audience members were even sat at the negotiating table.

Some people seem to think the play has a too-happy ending but I disagree, I think it's very clearly a bittersweet conclusion that I feel is appropriate. I got a huge kick out of the details from both the climate side and the UN side.

Would highly recommend, go see this if you can!

UPDATE! Some of you may recall the video I made with GiveDirectly last year, which included a fundraiser for a village in Akorian in Kenya.

I'm delighted to say that donations to the fundraiser from this channel raised just over $29,000, which is going to make an extraordinary difference to families. We've received some updates from the village, including from two men called Isaiah which I wanted to share with you here.

I'd also like to remind you that GiveDirectly also works with impoverished communities in the USA, and has been directly supporting low income families affected by the Los Angeles fires. If you have been moved by the stories of loss coming out of LA and would like to directly help a family in need, you can do so here: www.givedirectly.org/

This month I'm fundraising for Movember via a new project called Movember Marines!

www.instagram.com/movembermarines/

Created by my friend Dr Hannah Wakeford (who you may have seen in my sci fi planets videos) every day in November Movember Marines posts a new space marine... with a moustache. We have contributions from celebs, YouTubers, and even some Golden Demon-winning painters. Oh, and a few from me! Follow the page to get a little bit of silliness in your timeline every day this month.

As someone who has struggled with their mental health repeatedly over the years, I know first hand how vital it is to have organisations like Movember. It is our hope with this project that we can open up the conversation around mental health in the hobby community, and get more people talking about how they are feeling.
