This game is unusual in that both players played a star point, at a time when it was rare in even games. The 3-3 invasion in the top right corner was relevant to modern games and gave me an opportunity to explain some of the more important variations while enjoying a historic game.

Catching up for the Korean team, Shin Jinseo 9P had 5 straight wins from Round 9 to Round 13. The final Chinese player was Gu Zihao 9P, the Chinese team leader. Winning this game, SJS would get 4 straight victories for Korea and 16 consecutive wins in that tournament for himself, having been undefeated for the last four years.

At the 9th Round of 14, both Japan and Korea were down to their final player, while China had 5 players. This was due to Xie Erhao 9P's outstanding performance of 7 straight wins, which had eliminated most of the Korean and Japanese players.

After defeating Iyama Yuta 9P in round 10, Shin Jinseo 9P has continued to win and is now up against the third Chinese player, the world-famous Ke Jie 9P. Ke Jie was a previous world champion for several years and is also known for his match against AlphaGo.

Ke Jie has a new haircut!
Shin Jinseo has been undefeated for the last few years of this tournament and was about to catch up with Lee Changho's record of 14 consecutive wins. Consecutive wins over multiple years are a thing in this tournament, as the final winner often has to defeat a number of opponents.
