On May 24th, 2011, I was in a hotel room in Pittsburgh, PA getting ready to go on set of my very first feature film booking. The movie was "Won't Back Down", starring Maggie Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis, Holly Hunter, and Oscar Isaac. My first movie scene ever was with Maggie Gyllenhaal. Crazy. And while I never got to meet Viola Davis, I did meet her stand-in at the hotel gym. (When she got off the treadmill and left, I was half expecting Viola to come in and take her spot. Didn't happen.)
Anyway, Won't Back Down went on to break the box office record for worst opening weekend of all time 😬. I couldn't complain though. It was my first ever major film set and I got to work with an A-list actor. It was an incredible experience.
Today, on the tenth anniversary of that first job, I'm in the EXACT SAME HOTEL... Ok just kidding. That would have been cool though. I'm in a different hotel, this time in Texas, getting ready to work on another cool project. Couldn't ask for a better way to celebrate the 10 year mark. What a wild ride it's been. Here's to 10 more 🍻. I hope to see you on set one day!
