Donā€™t Follow These IELTS Reading Instructions!

At the start of each of the three IELTS Reading sections, youā€™ll see the instruction: ā€œYou should spend around 20 minutes on this section.ā€ However, sticking strictly to 20 minutes per section is NOT an effective strategy!

In the IELTS Reading test, questions progressively increase in difficulty. If you spend 20 minutes on the first section, you may struggle to complete the third.

Instead, aim to finish the first section as quickly as possible without making more mistakes. This will allow you to save more time for the tougher questions later on. (See Image 2)

If youā€™re an advanced reader, you might even finish all three sections in under 60 minutes, allowing extra time to review any questions you couldnā€™t answer straight away.

And remember, donā€™t get stuck on any single question. If youā€™re unable to find the answer right away, move on and return to it at the end.

Hereā€™s how you can improve your IELTS score by a full 1.0 Band quickly.

When Kubra took her first test, she scored 6.5 in Writing, Speaking, and Listening, with an overall score of 7.0. Not bad, but not enough.

In a matter of months, she retook the test. Her Writing score went up from 6.5 to 7.5, Speaking from 6.5 to 7.0, and Listening from 6.5 to 8.5. Her overall score improved from 7.0 to 8.0.

What caused this amazing improvement?

Although improving your English is the best way to achieve a certain IELTS score, many students **underuse the skills they already have.**

The second time, Kubra took her IELTS prep much more seriously, and it paid off. She took our Writing and Speaking courses, but itā€™s possible to prepare for free too.

The key is what youā€™ve heard a thousand times: **thoroughly prepare for your test**. I believe you can achieve brilliant results tooā€”keep going!

50% of your IELTS Listening score depends on just ONE question type. Are you curious to know which one?

Scroll to the next image and read more below:

In every test, Parts 1 and 4 consist of fill-in-the-blank questions (20 questions out of 40). Plus, you'll get multiple-choice questions and either a map or a matching information exercise.

That's it. There are only four types of questions in IELTS Listening.

You can learn the strategies for each one in this video: https://youtu.be/qEy_6To-CUc Good luck!

Why is IELTS Writing so tough?

Because it's like an iceberg! Test takers can see only a small part of the challenges and may not even be aware of all the requirements examiners use to assess their answers.

Ask yourself if you understand what all the "IELTS Band Descriptors" really mean. The next step is to see if you can fulfil them in 60 minutes.

Believe me, this section definitely requires some preparation. Start early!

Have you received an IELTS score below the required level?

Many students manage to improve their results on the second attempt, but you need to prepare the right way.

Analyse your mistakes and work on improving your weaknesses. Learning more effective strategies for each type of task is often the boost that can take you from a FAIL to a PASS. Keep on going!
