just a note about death.... its happens, its going to happen to us all. There was a comment about mortality in the tank a while ago and it got me thinking when I answered it- I think that because my channel and the philosophy of this tank is - it is what it is and you should be happy with what you have, I think its important to acknowledge that deaths do occur in this tank-
its (not)funny but really the only ones I notice (or end up seeing dead animals) is the octocinlus catfish - I have never found a dead red ember (they either just disappear into the tank biome or have jumped out)
I think the otcos form little bond groups - because when one dies often another one dies shortly afterwards
So.... sad today that this, my largest Octo was found this morning deceased but unmarked in the tank.
But in terms of the channel- I hope you dont mind but I dont really want to become a running tally of death -
As I am keeping a regular record of this tank over the years I really feel like it might become a bit macabre to then look back over the lifetime of the tank and total up all of the occupants... so I think we will just acknowledge that deaths happen, the water parameters are being monitored and are stable and I am trying my best to provide a good life and habitat for the livestock in this tank.
So from this point, unless new additions are truly remarkable or spectacular, or I am introducing a large number (like yearly or so I have been adding embers) I will not be making a point of noting it as part of this journal.
I can see that some of you might see this as cheating or disingenuous, and for that I do apologise, but as this project is also part of my mindful and wellbeing practice, this is a decision I have decided to take and I want to make it clear that this is how we are going to move forward together.
When Tony dies... will I just buy a new Tony and not even tell you, to be honest, I really just dont know, we will have to see:)

HI Team,
My beautiful people are going overseas to visit family on the break so I will be home alone with the Bonus cat, doggos and the Hangover. I will be doing some livestreams - Here are my proposed days
Christmas Eve (eastern standard time Australia)- music, Q and A, tank tour
Christmas Morning - livestream birdsong (traffic and planes), dogs barking etc - but aiming for calm asmr - chat over text - aquaescapist is no show on screen
New year eve/day or early in Jan 2024. Q and A- tank tour and music set
I know most of you guys are not in Australia so I am just interested in a few things-
1. Is anyone interested in hanging out in a non celebratory way over this date range and looking at/talking about fish tanks?
2. What time of the day is better for you? This doesnt mean I can personalise the stream to line up for you but it might give me an idea of the best time to try to get the most people on a live stream. ( so far the bar is low - statistic is 0)

This channel follows the set up and progress of the Hangover, a 72 litre natural fresh water aquascape.
The tank project began in 2019 and is a no fertiliser, no Carbon Dioxide low tech aquarium.
The ONF Flat One 60 light is high intensity and only runs for two short photoperiods each day
60mins in the morning at 25% 5000K then 45 mins 100% at 6500K.
Then off for the day and in the afternoon 90 mins 100% 6500K and then 45 mins 65% 5100K then lights out.
The water for this tank is rainwater collected from the roof of our house and stored in a concrete reservoir under it.
The idea behind this channel is to be sustainable, to not need to get bigger or better or upgrade, but just to live and also to be mindful. Having a fishtank is the ability to look at the same thing every day, but to actually pay attention and really see the detail and notice what you are seeing.
