Aims: To dispel myths and stereotype of Africa. Present critical analysis of Political Economy of Africa Development, whose peoples voice have been unheard. The Hear Alkebu – Lan* Institute, formerly known as ‘Hear Afrika Society’,was set up in 2008 at the University of Sussex as result of the necessity that Africans need a platform to present their point of views and challenge the establishment and mainstream negative analysis and narrations of African socio-cultural development.
Meaning: Alkebulan is one of the many original names Africa was called by the ancient Africans. Alkebulan means ‘mother of mankind’.
Background: Africa was named after Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus, also known as Scipio the African, Scipio Africanus-Major, Scipio Africanus the Elder, and Scipio the Great, was a Roman general, who defeated Hannibal Barca in October, 202 BC, between ancient cities of Carthage and Utica (present day Tunisia), in the Second Punic War/ Battle of Zama.
