This is our final post in this series. Many thanks to all the artists who beckoned us to beauty and shared a piece of themselves in worship. We look forward to the beautiful art we all will continue to create together!

Triptych Dirtbag
by Will Lee
Watercolor & Paper

“'Man, I feel like mold
It's prom night and I am lonely
Lo and behold
She's walkin' over to me
This must be fake
My lip starts to shake
How does she know who I am?
And why does she give a damn about me?'
For about a month I had Lizzy McAlpine's cover of “Teenage Dirtbag” on repeat (yes, the 2001 pop-rock hit song by the band Wheatus). Lizzy’s tenderness with the source material opened up the lyrics to me like a flower opens up to the morning sun. This was a song about being seen, understood, and cherished - something we all long for and need. In particular the third verse (lyrics above) highlights the wonder and awe we experience when in our feeling “like mold” - “lo and behold” someone knows who we are and gives a damn about us.

So I continue to marvel and experience awe of how I am seen, understood, and cherished in this beloved community, in the arms of the divine, in my body, in the Body of Christ broken for all, in our collective body knit together in belovedness. Thank you Genesis."
