Hi everyone! I finally finished the front room at the center and as you can see I ended up not turning it into the infant room. The setup just didn’t work. So I turned it into the preschool room. I like the idea of having a separate curriculum room and it will also be used for our Summer Camp program for elementary students this summer. I didn’t film the transformation because life has been so crazy with closing the home daycare, moving and working nights with nursing. I will be filming a room tour this weekend. We are holding our first Open House this Saturday and I’m excited to say we have filled our Infant room and half of our toddler room already. We are scheduled to reopen April 4th. So be on the lookout for the tour video this Tuesday!

The benefits of reading with and to toddlers cannot be overstated. Not only does it help them build phonemic awareness, add to their vocabulary, and understand basics of the alphabet, it can also help them grow as children. Here at Learn To Play we have created a stimulating and nurturing space for our own children's library. We believe by creating a space that stimulates the children's imagination it will encourage early reading. Along with over 200 books in our collection that are rotated bi-weekly, we have added baskets of "book buddies" to encourage the children to "read" to their buddy. By doing so children develop creativity by making up their own "story" to go along with the pictures in the book. Each book has a library card attached to encourage children to practice writing their name and to encourage independence by picking out their own book. Library visits are a great addition to small group learning.

One of the ways Learn To Play Childcare Center is unique from other childcare centers is how we approach learning through dramatic play. Our preschool room is designed with a non-traditional set up and decor. We have created learning stations that mimic real life scenarios that children are familiar with which makes learning not only exciting but comforting. Showcased below is our Grocery Store Station. There are various learning opportunites such as counting. Through the use of the cash register and play wallets, children are given the opportunity to learn how to count using money. Another learning tool the grocery store provides is reinforcing color, shapes and sorting. By having "fruits & vegetables" the children can sort by color and shapes. With the box goods children are able to sort by size and shape and reinforcing there ability to count. By using the grocery carts children learn to share and to make independent choices through picking out their own food. Another learning opportunity is through role play. Through various store employee positions such as the "Stocker" children learn how to organize and can create shelf design. As the "Cashier" children are able to improve on there vocabulary while conversing with the "Shopper". So as you can see there are so many ways children learn through play and by designing spaces that is essentially how children Learn To Play as well.
