I was working on a video showing how to design and create your own ESP Home Assistant dashboards but I felt like the tutorial was really complicated and long.
So I started writing a tool to let you create the interfaces. Anyone interested? 🙂

Hey everyone! I've got a little (well, kind of big) update for you all!
Last year, I started building a brand-new office intended to become my YouTube Studio. However, after losing Casper, my brother, and dealing with various family matters, creating content was understandably the last thing on my mind. Sitting in front of a camera just didn't feel right.
Thankfully, I've slowly started getting back into making videos and content again. It's honestly amazing—and heart-warming—to see so many of you still here and to welcome plenty of new faces too 😁. I did put together a video briefly touching on some these points (you can watch it here if you're curious: https://youtu.be/47Vr_HT_U5Y). At the time of filming that video, I was finally settling into the new studio, ready and eager to get going.
During my hiatus, I dove into the world of 3D modelling, drawing, and lots (and lots!) of 3D printing. I actually did Graphics, Vision and Game Design as my degree so it's always nice to be doing some form of software-y, design-type thing. That passion quickly turned into a small business where I've been creating custom requests, selling licensed models, and exploring all kinds of creative projects. Things escalated rapidly—Christmas was absolutely wild!—and before I knew it, my new studio turned into a bustling workshop filled with printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, and everything else you can imagine. As you can guess, having a studio/workshop combo presented challenges like heat, noise, and microplastics flying everywhere!
So, I actually decided to move my recording setup back to the original office space (long-time viewers might recognize the old backdrop!). Rachel was thrilled as you can imagine 🙈😂. Now, the workshop is its own dedicated space—more of an outdoor creative tech haven that I genuinely love spending time in. You'll definitely be seeing plenty more of it in upcoming videos and posts.
Speaking of which, some of you have already subscribed to my (currently very empty 😂) second channel, PrintedByMark: youtube.com/@PrintedByMark. This channel will exclusively feature workshop-style content—think 3D printers, lasers, DIY projects, tutorials, designs, and all that good stuff. This separation lets me keep my smart home, tech, and Home Assistant viewers happy, while giving me the freedom to experiment and create in new, slightly janky ways (you know me 😂). The content will be different to the normal MWT style of things, but I think that's okay.
I've always loved the quote, "Until It's Done, Tell None"—a bit ironic, considering my excitement had me announcing things way before they were actually ready! 😂 If you've been wondering about updates or future plans, rest assured: more is coming soon... once the workshop is tidy and camera-ready!
In the meantime, if you're curious about what's next on this channel, definitely check out the linked video above. As we've established I like to pre announce and there's definitely some pre announcements in that one 😂.
If you've read this far, you're a legend—drop this post a like 👍🏻!
Finally, a huge thank you to every single person who's engaged with the content, sent messages, or checked in over the past few months. Your support means the world to me.
Let's get creating!
Cheers!

GITHUB USERS! 🚨
I've had a surprising amount of messages over the last few weeks regarding access to my tutorials on GitHub (I didn't realise they were used so much!).
The official MarkWattTech GitHub account has been suspended but i'm not sure why. I've contacted GitHub but haven't heard anything.
I have all the repo code and can upload it elsewhere if this is helpful to people? Any suggestions on how to get my account recovered or where best to host elsewhere are all welcomed 😄

Hopefully releasing the Nest Mini PCB change tutorial from a few weeks ago later on today. Also there will be a Last Minute Live Stream at 8:30 UK Time today (23rd December). You know how I like to do everything last minute 😂.
I will be opening some packages and talking tech.
See you then.
P.S here's a still from the tutorial video. Any guesses what that is? Wrong answers only 😂👇🏻
The best answer will win an Onju voice PCB and ill pick a winner in the stream.
Merry Christmas!

New videos are on the way 🥳
I didn't manage to finish the edit yet. I did however print a baby groot 😂.
My Question to all of you 3D printing people's, what are your favourite 3D printed models?
Have a great weekend!

No new video this week (unless I somehow magic some editing time). This week I have been crazy busy and have also been working on a charity fundraiser at my place if work.
Last year I ran a fundraiser to help raise money for the National Deaf Childrens Society which is a charity that has done a lot for my daughter and many other deaf children.
With the help of my subscribers we raised over
£1000 which is amazing!
This year (today) I ran a private event at my place of work which consisted of a raffle and a silent auction made up from tech from previous videos and donations from some of the amazing companies I have worked with. 100% of all raised funds will be going to National Deaf Children's Society
A special thank you to my work colleagues and also my friends at SONOFF, Shelly IOT, SwitchBot , TheHyperspaceLightCompany and Proscenic.
You guys are awesome!
Today over £3000 has been raised for the NDCS 🤯🙏🏻

If you would like to help support the NDCS then my previous donation link is still active. Any and all contributions will be massively appreciated.

Welcome to Mark Watt Tech!
My name is Mark,
I am a Software Developer and I have a passion for Technology, Software and all things Smart Home. I started off by helping out in forums and on Facebook posts and decided I wanted to try and help a little more. At the beginning of January 2021 I uploaded my first video and have tried to create helpful videos and posts since then!
I use Home Assistant daily and love to encourage and help others to use technology and software in meaningful ways to help automate, improve and just generally make there lives easier.
On this channel I will be looking at smart home systems and devices that can be used to automate and simplify your life.
Having connected devices is great, but smart devices is where the magic happens. I will be taking lots of big concepts and projects and simplifying them so that anyone and everyone can follow along regardless of your understanding and background.
