Today marks the first day of World Breastfeeding Week! Like many mamas out there, breastfeeding did not come naturally to me or my baby. Struggling to feed your baby is one of the most painful things a mama's heart will feel. Luckily, after several sources of help & encouragement, we figured it out. I'm so blessed to have had such a wonderful woman as my local lactation consultant. A very huge thank you goes out to her.
In a world where hyper individualism leads to the "my body my choice" mentality, it's hard to not give into the temptation to give up on breastfeeding when it gets tough. I came very close many times to quitting myself, but through prayer I looked to the motherhood of Mary for strength and embraced my struggles to do what was best for my child. She never gave up on Christ, so therefore I knew I couldn't give up on my own child.
We live in a culture where babies are sacrificed for the convenience of their mother, but sacrificing myself for my baby has been a very humbling experience. My body is not just mine anymore, it is also my child's. It nourishes and keeps my child alive, and I'm happy to give it up for my sweet baby.
This week, I'd light to highlight the benefits of breastfeeding (especially in the time of a formula shortage), combat some breastfeeding myths, and empower mamas everywhere to find resources to help when the journey gets tough.
Mama, you can do it. You are smart enough. You are strong enough. And you aren't alone! ❤️

A year ago our wedding ceremony in Florida was canceled by the government. We had a 10 person ceremony with immediate family to at least get married in the Church, but had to postpone our celebration by a whole year. This week our day FINALLY came and it was perfect!
