Did Bear Have The Nerve?

Hello, hello, painting friends! I know Iā€™ve been largely absent from our little artistic community for the last several months. I had a bit of an accident in November that caused some severe nerve damage in my hand and arm. As I make my living playing piano, this has been a nightmare. But, the last two surgical procedures are done and Iā€™ll be doing PT and OT. I will see you all very soon. šŸ»

Buddha with Bodhi Leaves (12x16x1.5in cradled wood). Kintsugi-inspired 2nd addition to this expanding series. This started life as a failed pour. I covered the panel in copper leaf and used transparent colors in layers. As a result, there is a subtle iridescence from beneath the paints. Iā€™m really happy with this one.

This is my first painting since October. This took forever! Itā€™s inspired by the Japanese practice of kintsugi, or golden joining. Kintsugi is about embracing the damage and imperfections of things (usually pottery), but this seemed really appropriate for me right now. 12x16x1.5in.

Howā€™s this for something different from Bearā€™s Den? ā€Ŗ@TiffanyRemijnā€¬ inspired me to try my hand at some heavy texture and blending using a catalyst wedge, aluminum foil, and modeling paste. I threw all of my darkest blues (and a few metallic) to get this dark, transparent field. Bottom is layer after layer of yellows and golds. Gold splatter for some balance. šŸ»
