Elon Musk "liked" my tweet.

Should I feel flattered or worried?

Or should I wonder why there's no tick against his name (hahaha!).

I'm trying to get a handle on the RR/Redcat situation. How will you be responding to Redcat turning RR's drones into "FPV strike drones"?

If you fly RC model aircraft (as opposed to multirotors) in Australia then you should be outraged at this story that claims the offender "was charged with three counts of using a model aircraft less than 30 metres from a person and three counts of using a model aircraft over a populous area" when in fact it appears a multirotor was used.

We're used to hearing our multirotor craft referred to in the media as "drones" but now they're referring to "drones" as "RC model aircraft"???

A happy July 4th to all my US friends and viewers. A reminder... freedoms worth having are freedoms worth protecting. Do not allow inaction and indifference to rob you of the freedoms you have. These are the attributes that authorities rely on when they want to chip away at your freedoms and rights.

Love you all (like brothers that is... no hanky-panky okay? :-P)

ADSB Update: Beta-testing is great! Someone has already found a memory-leak in the ADSB code so I'm working on a fix for that now. More beta-testers will be brought into the group as soon as I've fixed that so if you've expressed a desire to be included, stay tuned -- you could be next :-)

Also, it's looking as if a Pi-Zero-W version might be possible which means you can just slap it on the back of any old analog FPV LCD screen which will keep the costs down and allow you to re-use some old gear from your analog days.

How do you feel about the fact that the FAA has petitioned the courts to have PhillyDroneLife banned from flying any drone. The exact demand is:

"Defendant is PROHIBITED from operation of any and all drones"

This would mean that Mikey would be prohibited from flying a whoop in his own living room. That's not even within the FAA's purview -- yet that's what they're demanding.

I'm working on a video about this and the injustice of Mikey's situation. SpaceX hurls 3.5 tons of rocketfuel into the sky over our heads in breach of FAA regs and it gets "a proposed fine of $175K" -- Mikey flies a bit of plastic over Philly (hurts nobody, breaks damages nothing) and gets a total ban plus $185K of fines.

Mikey is on the bones of his ass financially so even a $1K fine is a huge burden -- SpaceX has already received $15.3 BILLION dollars in US federal funding so $175K is a drop in the bucket and is effectively paid by US taxpayers anyway.

Sounds fair right?

I'll be contacting a few people over the weekend with a pointer to download the ADSB alarm SD-card image file for beta testing. Stay tuned. In the meantime, does this DIY 4S Li-Ion battery pack look a little too menacing?

Does anyone want the .STL files for thsi pack? It only ads a few grams to the total battery-build weight and with the right cells I get 22 minutes flight time on the Cinelog 35HD.

Okay, hands up anyone who wants to be a beta-tester for the ADSB alarm.

You'll need:

- a Raspberry Pi 4 (2GB or better)
- a RTL SDR USB device with antenna (any antenna will do -- even a 2.4GHz or 5.8GHz one)

And preferably (but not essential) a basic understanding of Python and Linux -- this just makes it easier to check error conditions and/or apply changes.

An Android phone/tablet will also be useful (for setting the alarm's home-position and various parameters such as alarm-range/altitude etc).

Some people from each quadrant of the globe would be useful to check that it functions at all GPS coords.

If you're a Patreon supporter -- let me know, it's extra points! :-)

To avoid having to deal with a mountain of questions from all those who intend to use this device, I'd rather get the niggly bugs and "how do I?" questions sorted before release so I can create an FAQ and supporting documentation so using a small number beta-testers will make this much easier.

Is ‪@ChadKapper‬ (founder of FlightTest and RotorRiot) now flogging scammy streaming devices that give you subscription-free Netflix, Hulu, Disney+?

No, of course not -- but scammers are using his image in their ads on YouTube.

Check this video that is also running as an ad (and see Chad at the 46-second mark):

I have a video coming on this over at my Bruce Simpson channel (what do you mean you're not already subscribed to that channel?)

Remember that FAA video which showed how RID would enable police and security agencies to identify approved flights and leave them alone whilst identifying "bad actors" flying drones in the skies over our heads?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jR3KO...

Well take a look at what happened when a drone operator undertook an authorized and quite legal flight after the "enforcement" date this month (from a Facebook posting).

It seems that having RID and being legal is more likely to attract the attention of police (six cruisers???) than flying without RID would. Chances are that if this guy was flying a drone that wasn't a DJI and didn't have RID then DHS wouldn't have even known he was in the air and he'd have been left alone. Me thinks this RID thing isn't quite working as intended (ha ha ha!).
